Sneak Peak: New CGW Extension Spring TRS
« on: April 06, 2016, 08:25:03 PM »
Attached are pics of the pending CGW trigger return system.  There are 3 parts:

1)  Stainless steel tempered spring clip
2)  Precision 4140 steel sleeve w/3 grooves
3)  Extension Spring

The stainless steel spring clip is fully tempered which makes it very tough and resilient.  It has 3 small precision holes drilled to accommodate either a single extension spring in the center, or 2 smaller extension springs L & R of the center groove.  The spring clip clears everything in the frame with room to spare since it hugs the trigger bar closely.  It simply springs onto the trigger bar.

The sleeve is cut on a swiss-screw machine and is crafted from 4140 steel with 3 - small spring retention grooves.  The extension spring will be made from music wire and we are in the final phase of determining the ideal spring rates.  Extension springs have a lifespan measured in hundreds of thousands of cycles.  So it should be bye-bye broken trigger return springs.

The system is assembled outside of the frame and uses our floating trigger pin, but other trigger pins will work equally as well.  The sleeve is designed to "drop" into the TR-PIN's smaller center section, effectively locking the TR-PIN in place.  The TR-PIN can still be removed with a medium tap on the end of the pin, exactly the same as it is now with the old style torsion spring.

Cool thing is this is a very tight, well integrated system using the OEM trigger and trigger bar.  When using 2 springs, it has the potential to be the ultimate in a reliable functioning CZ trigger return system.  We plan on pricing this around $38.00 plus S&H.  Once the spring rates are dialed in, it should be available in the next few months.

Looks like you've done it again.
Does this give the options to decrease AND/OR increase the trigger pull weight?

Nice work!  Will this be part of the Pro or Defensive packages in the near future, or a separate purchase?

1SOW,

That's a good question.  Don't see why we could not offer heavier springs to accomplish that.

Don't know if we are going to include this our DCP or Pro-P.

David,

That is a fantastic idea and I'm excited to be able to tune the trigger weight with this system.  I don't think we need super fine spring weight increments but 1/2 lb increments would be nice.  I'm assuming you could run multiple springs if needed to get the right trigger pull weight (two in the outside holes)?

How is the tempered steel spring clip attached to the trigger bar?  Is it adhered or just a mechanical attachment?

If you need any reliability testing done before release, I'd be happy to put it to the test :) :)!

Thanks again for all you do for the CZ community!

Cheers,
Toby

tdogg,

There are 2 tabs on the underside of the clip that lock into the trigger bar from the bottom.  The top "tab" has a right angle that puts quite a bit of tension on the trigger bar from the top.  When it is installed, it goes into position with a solid "click", a great audible clue it's locked on.  We tried to break a clip by removing it and reattaching it 30-40 times and it was not phased.  Obviously once installed the first time, it would likely stay installed.  But good to know the clip is very tough.

I think tuning the trigger pull, to a degree, is doable with this system.  I think 1SOW is on to something.

I'd be thrilled to test increasing an existing 2.6# pull weight to 2.9# +/- 1 lb. O0 ;D

David,

Any update on this new TRS system?  Are you close to offering it to the public?

Cheers,
Toby

Another great product for Home gunsmithing!!! no more fighting to get the pin installed with tension on the spring (after doing it a few times it really is easy) however this seems like it would make it that much easier!!!

We received the center rollers today that ride on the trigger pin.

The spring clips will ship out on 5-16-16.  We only have the extension spring to finalize and this will not take much time.

Almost there.

How did i miss this until now!

For whatever reason i have been pondering the weak points of the CZ75 design under hard use lately. As in what parts would fail that would put you out of business. Guess i can cross the TRS off the list.

This design is quite different than i imagined when i first heard CGW was working on parts to replace the TRS. This is far more robust.

Very interesting stuff. I can not wait to get my hands on some.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

Tok36,

That was our goal.
