Bushnell TRS-25 - Good or Bad?
« on: September 12, 2016, 11:03:15 AM »
A buddy of mine just gave me a Bushnell TRS-25 to try on my carbine.  Anyone else using or have used this red dot?  Any good?

If you are using it, what riser are you using to see the open sights or using to co-witness with the front sight?

It currently has a solid riser on it.  Will mount it this evening to see what I think.

The best sub-100$ rds currently available (with exception of the PA rds). Mount it directly for perfect cowitness.

I have one on an AR truck gun. Eats batteries, but always works.

How bad does it eat batteries?

As mentioned, without riser mount it co-witnesses 100%. When I ordered mine, I also got the smallest mount I could find at that time, and it puts it so high that it doesn't co-witness anymore. Just the other day, I came across another mount that looked smaller than the one I originally got, so I'm hoping it will provide a tiny bit of co-witness (may be less than a 3rd though). I'm probably wrong, but if does sit lower and provides some co-witness, I'll update this post.

Otherwise I'm happy with mine. In fact, I just ordered two more. One for the Bren (since the EOTech is so darn heavy) and one for the vz 58. (Got an RS mount on the way).

I used one on a ruger 22 pistol and it never let me down.  I later moved it to a ruger scout 308 rifle and it's still going strong.  Very good value for the money.

Great for it's cost, battery I never used one long enough for it to die. My buddies have several of them. Me I'm a Vortex sparc II lover. I also like the HHS Eotech as well.

When I had it on all the time, at about 50% I  think I was getting 4, maybe 5 months tops. I like having all HD optics on and ready 24/7.

It now resides on a gun that doesn't  have that requirement.  One and only gripe with the little booger.

Got it mounted this evening, but did not get a chance to try it out yet.  Believe it will work out ok.

I forgot to mention that I get about 4 months of life out of the battery, left on constantly at 2 or 3 for indoor use. With the present low cost of batteries, I find this acceptable for the nonce.

I have a TRS-25 on my scorpion carbine. Liked it so much that I bought another for my AR9, but it had a shifted image. Sent it back, second one came with this problem too. So then I went with the PA microdot, and it too has a shifted image. My first TRS is still the best one.
I *would* probably like the PA better since the dot doesn't disappear at all (TRS dot disappears in upper left corner), but otherwise they are basically identical.

I had a TRS-25 on one of my AR rifles but sold it because I found the emitter at the 4 o'clock position too distracting and interfered with cowitness.  That being said, you probably can't find a better RDS at that price point.  I also found the 3 MOA dot to be the perfect size for my old eyes.

Good for the money, I would recommend it.  Had my TRS-25 on a 22 Ruger 22/45 pistol and moved it to an AR carbine using a .83" riser to co-witness with the sights.  (UTG Med-pro Compact Riser Mount, 0.83" High, 3 Slots) Better than iron sights and worth the money.  FYI-I think the riser was less than $10.
