I agree with you Bret. But I'll reap from their mistake, because now I have what I've been looking for!

Notice the line on the frame above the grips on the pcr and SP-01 compact. The frame widens slightly and I am guessing it's for more material and more strength on the alloy frames. The steel frames on the classic Compact and SP-01 don't widen like that. But, the SP-01 Compact frame does. If you pistol whipped a tank with this it's arguable the tank loses. OK, maybe a slight exaggeration but whoever ordered these wanted a very durable pistol.
I think someone was trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.  Perhaps after they were made the buyer decided that they weigh too much.  Or, perhaps someone accidentally used the wrong forging.

I'm guessing an over-run on an order. Seems to me (I could be wrong) that a large order of pistols in Europe would either be a military order or national police order. I have worked for companies who would make over-runs (by accident or on purpose) and hope the customer takes the product. Economies of scale and all that. Maybe they cast an overage of frames thinking scrap rate would be high, but it was not - may as well make the guns knowing a market exists for them somewhere in the world.

I wonder why the Euro party didn't buy them and if it had anything to do with the gun itself? Like the gun's weight? Sights? Trigger pull?

Wonder why it smelled like foul ocean as Scarlett said? Is there a manufacture date noted anywhere? Maybe they sat in storage.

I just finished with the current upgrades to mine when I put new G10 VZ black tactical diamonds grips on it and the 85C trigger - both if which arrived today. When I installed the 85C trigger I put in a CGW reduced power trigger spring and floating trigger pin. Man, the floating trigger pin makes putting in the trigger spring a snap. It feels much better in my hand with the new grips. The tactical diamonds grips are pretty aggressive (cheese grater) and so I customized them by sanding them down a bit to suit me like I did the other set I have on my P01.

Earlier this week I put in CGW's ultra-light kit (13 pound hammer spring, extended firing pin with reduced power spring and reduced power firing pin block spring as well as their firing pin retaining pin). DA pull feels much lighter and SA is feeling a tad lighter as well. I also installed a 14# recoil spring.

SA pull is a little long so I'm toying with the idea of putting in a new hammer and short reset disco. May as well go whole-hog I guess.

Thanks to this thread I was able to figure out which distributor they went to, and snatched up a few.  There is a decocker model as well that isn't a P01, and and the description on a couple sites says steel frame, so a SP01 Tactical Compact basically.  Got a few of those too  8)

One of them is going to get stripped, polished, hot blued, get a nice set of wood stocks, and be on my hip on my wedding day.   :D

Century imported the Canik Stingray Cs a couple years back that had steel frame and slides and ambi safeties...  A superb pistol and one of the best value pistols purchases I've made in recent years (was something like $300 or from JG Sales IIRC)...  Of course, Century is no longer importing -- Century being Century...

Mind pointing us the right direction?

This the decocker version referenced? -- not the same beaverail but not seeing anything similar elsewhere in my searches at these dealers...

I've got one in black. Good pistol, but the gun shoots high at any range and I couldn't find any sights to fit in order to correct. No malfunctions whatsoever. Do not care for the funky chamber indicator.

Oh I've been waiting for an all steel P-01. I even had a full chrome Stingray-C to try and fill the void, but still sought after that all steel P-01. I just saw about these all steel P-01s today, and I have coming to me from Buds Gun Shop. FINALLY!!!!! I'm getting what I've wanted for freaking years. YES!!!!!

Took the "SP01 Compact" to the range after the upgrades for a function check. Ran 200 more rounds through without any problems whatsoever. I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but the rear sight was off to the left so the gun was shooting a little left. I pushed the sight to the right (which centered it on the gun) and it is now shooting straight.

Has anybody else receive a notification from mrgundealer?  So far I'm not impressed at the lack of communication.
I called today to check the status of my order.  The guy I spoke with said that it was waiting to be picked up by the post office.  I received a tracking number later in the day via email.

I've got one in black. Good pistol, but the gun shoots high at any range and I couldn't find any sights to fit in order to correct. No malfunctions whatsoever. Do not care for the funky chamber indicator.

There were a few different rear sights on these.  Some came adjustable and some fixed.  Believe stock CZ sights fit with minimal fitting.  I just wanted mine for a truck gun and it shoots a couple inches high (fixed sight) at 25 yards, but center so I just use a hold.  Eventually I plan to tune it and get better sights, but for now I'm happy.

I have been kicking myself for not getting a near complete set (not really big into chrome on my guns, so skipping that one) and getting the ODG, Tan, and Titanium as well as the black I originally purchased...

Main difference between the Canik and this CZ is that the Canik has the slide release on both sides while the CZ is just on the right per pics.
