rhart I also think that the CGW sear is a higher quality part than the stock sear and that it may provide a smoother interface with the hammer.  In addition, it most certainly makes fitting the safeties easy.  I fitted a set of safeties to a stock sear once and it was definitely a PIA which I vowed to never repeat.

I certainly agree with you that if you are going to bother putting in a competition hammer and disassembling the sear cage it makes a lot of sense to put in a CGW lifter and sear and a short reset disconnector.

I think you are correct. Definitely a higher quality part that gives a smoother interaction with the hammer.

Got mine yesterday. Score!  A great companion to the CZ 75C.  I love the steel frame. Not a fan of steel slides on alloy frames, so this is just what the doctor ordered.

I immediately set about with some routine upgrades....Hammer, sear, 13lb mainspring, extended FP, disconnector, ss guide rod, CZ97 thick trigger (the horrid recurve trigger HAD to go), grips, etc etc......She came out great. Feels like a custom shop gun! But I do think I'll put a slightly wider set of safeties on it. The type D slims are a bit too slim for my tastes.  And yes, the race hammer IS much nicer with the polished billet sear mated to it.......

The double action is now a silky-smooth 6.9lbs, and single action is a crisp 3.0.  She seems chunky until you handle it alongside a full-sized SP-01 Tac.....

Can't wait to shoot this all-steel "Mini SP-01" to verify its performance with my self defense loads, and to put her into the carry rotation later this week.  A great buy and a super-cool little CZ. I'm glad I waited for a steel framed variant of the P-01!!!!

Beautiful work! Look great with those grips and upgrades, especially alongside its big brother! Let us know how shooting it goes.

Sweet! Did you do any polishing of internals?

Yes, I polished all the internals, including the inside of the frame, the sear cage, sear, trigger bar, trigger surfaces, hammer strut, hammer surfaces, firing pin, sear and hammer pivot pins, disconnector, inside of my mainspring, barrel throat, slide rails, etc.   I do a dress with 2000 grit and then a final with 7000 grit, for a baby-smooth surface polish.  This includes even the aftermarket parts I received for the upgrades.

All the usual odd hitches, stumbles and burbles in the double action stroke are completely gone.  The double action is silky smooth and consistent, with no stacking at the end of the travel. There is not a hint of creep or camming in the clean, crisp single action.   The difference is huge.  I am also a really big fan of the extra leverage that the CZ97 thick trigger gives me, with absolutely no "pinching" of my fingertip the way the stock recurve trigger pinches my finger behind it while I'm rapid-firing.  I took some time and polished the sides, forward edges, and face of that 97 trigger until it was super-smooth, too.  The wood grips I prefer are the correct size and shape to position my hand so that my trigger finger falls in the right spot on  the trigger when I draw the gun, and the checkering is just enough to add grip without snagging on clothing or irritating skin while carrying. I buy the grips in the raw with just a light surface oil rubbed finish on them, and then I add a few coats of tung oil to them over a two-day period for waterproofing and durability, and to seal the grain, so I don't get cracks or splits. Makes 'em tough, durable AND attractive.

I really like the beavertail on this particular Compact. It's the perfect size and shape, and very comfy!   The gun is really not much heavier than the standard steel-frame CZ75C compact.  This may have become my favorite compact CZ ever.  I also just added the 5.5mm x 3.1mm front tritium night sight to this SP-01 compact, which I had removed from my Shadow Tac II last month when I converted that gun to fiber optic.     It is now the perfect carry piece, that you can also throw a light on in the evening for night-time home defense duty....!

I called David this morning to get some insights on my testing of upgrade parts. When I brought up some differences in the depth of the dimple the firing pin causes in primers for this SP-01 Compact (deeper w a lighter hammer spring) compared to my Classic Compact he gave some great insight. He mentioned that CZ is notorious for running their tooling longer than they should, which results in some pistols with slightly less smooth finishes in places. He said that the difference I am seeing is likely caused by less inertia in my Classic Compact and it could be because the firing pin channel isn't as smooth (i.e. it got a little more worn out tooling). This could be the factor reducing the inertia slightly and thus causing a smaller dimple on the primers. He also confirmed that this is nothing to do with the placement of the firing pin retaining pin. I forgot to ask if we should be polishing firing pin channels.... I ask when I call back about safety and frame measurements for these pistols.
Aside from that long explanation. He mentioned that when a special order comes through it is highly likely that CZ runs the pistols through with fresh tooling to insure the highest quality results. Many have continued to mention excellent fit and finish in this pistols and it would seem that this could be confirmed (better maintained tooling, because they were special order). Now I don't say this as any sort of guarantee, I definitely don't rep CZ and I know there's always potential for an error. Just some observations coming together and sharing my thoughts. Seems like this is an excellent pistol in more ways than we may have initially bargained. Possibly closer to custom quality potential than the average mass produced pistol.

Side note: Threw in the 11.5lb hammer spring from my CGW kit. The trigger pulls dropped dramatically, definitely more than I expected from just the 13 lb hammer spring I had previously. Check these out! Going to do some testing, got some guidance from David. I'll post results in my testing thread. I just can't express how unbelievable my trigger feels and how much I want this to function 100%. The single action break is now comparable to my Tactical Sport (back when I had it). Yes, yes... I know safety concerns at such a light trigger. I built subconscious memory with lots of practice with my Tactical Sport. That pistol raised my trigger awareness to the next level. I will definitely give people a brief and some dry fire before trying it. I preface because I know I will get concerned members, which I do appreciate everyone looking out for one another.

I found this same thing with the 11.5lb spring in here. The DA is amazing and the SA is on the verge of too light.   I actually put the 13 lb mainspring back in for now.  I don't want to even RISK a light strike in a self-defense gun, so I err on the side of polishing the gun slick as heck and just running a little heavier mainspring.

While I am running it through its paces on Sunday with different ammo I might just throw the 11.5lb mainspring back in, to see if it is 100% reliable with the primers in my chosen self-defense ammo......Can't help myself.....But I really don't need the single action any less than 3 lbs, either....    : )

I received my Compact SP-01 yesterday and compared  the workmanship to my 40 caliber P-06. The workmanship and tooling definitely look better on the Compact than on my P-06.  The finish even looks better.  The inside of the  P-06 was not even fully covered with paint or whatever CZ uses on the exterior of their coated  pistols.

I am going to install the 13LB hammer spring along with the EFP  from CGW as I have done with all my CZ`s. This is a very inexpensive and easy  way to really improve the trigger on these.

Hi Scarlett,  The more I read about this pistol the more excited I get about mine finally getting here. I got notice today that the seller has everything they need to ship.  Hopefully it will be here next week.  BTW I really like those grips. Are they as thin or thinner that the ones on your Compact with the aluminum checkered grips ? Are the aluminum checkered grips from CZC or the CZ web site ?
Thanks,  Jim

Jim,
Congratulations! You'll have it in no time. Thanks. Measuring both pistols with the grips on these copper ones are actually slightly thinner but only by 2 hundredths. The aluminum checkered grips are from CZ Custom. Mine were an extra aggressive set that I haven't seen on there for a while for the Compact. They are pretty darn aggressive so it's probably good that the normal ones are in stock.

To the followers of this thread:

I now have a major problem. I have propogated this batch of SP-01 Compacts because I was excited about them. After shooting mine and dry firing it my issue developed. It fits my hands and grip in a way I can't describe, it's just so good. The weight and balance, all of it just has drawn me in. I see the number of available pistols slowly diminishing and I want another for my future self to always have this wonderful fit and feel. I no longer want to proselytize the SP-01 Compact! I want to delete all related posts so enough remain in stock that I can raise funds and buy another. I've never felt so greedy about a CZ... And while this may sound sarcastic and funny there is a part of me that is totally serious! Mods, consider erasing all posts about these pistols for my better good!

Question for all of you that have purchased on of these guns. What was the time frame to receive it? I order one on Monday and haven't received any shipping info to date. I sent an email and asked if they had all the info needed and received a reply stating yes. They also stated it would ship soon. Just anxious and waiting LOL

Ordered mine on Oct 15th 1:00 am.
Got shipping number on Oct 19th.
Arrived on Oct 21st.

But there might have been a run on guns before the election so they might be a little slower right now...
