and I think grip panels are the same as the compact/pcr/p-01 as well so I can replace with some rosewood ones if I like, correct?

Correct

as for the safety. is it easy to swap to a bigger ambi safety button if I think they're too thin? or require some fitting like 1911s?

It's a pretty easy swap. Normally CZ safeties don't require fitting, but the right side safety on these is pretty tight. That being said you would only need to replace the right side safety since you're lefty... So you may not to do any fitting. If so it is easy. I can send you to a thread with all the info along with a video about it.

EDIT: I made the plunge, picked one up from Mrgundealer for $539.98 shipped (my FFL does a $15 transfer fee) soooooooooo stinking excited!

Mrgundealer.com is now down to 5 in stock after I made my order and everyone else seems to be nearly out too
Congratulations! Dang this tax season stuff sure drives demand. They may dry up faster than I thought. Glad I have 2 already!! [emoji48] Anyways, the thread is long so if you have questions you can ask or message me. There's references to threads testing the impact of upgrades, total disassembly and reassembly videos, the thread on safeties, and a bunch more info buried in here somewhere.

You bet! Back when there were only 500 instead of all 1600 I was desperately scrounging funds to get a second as a back up. Who know how long they last now... But this was still a one time run for a client that didn't end up taking delivery. So once they are gone they are gone. Rumor has it they were an order from an Asian country... This is total rumor at this point but it always a scrap of information.

lol, yeah that's still NOT a lot of guns. I'm super tempted just putting it on my business CC and ordering a second one as backup and sell it off if I don't like it. I have never shot a CZ before (this is my first CZ gun) so I'm not sure if I'll fall in love with this particular model, but I've been wanting CZ 75 variant for a llooooooooong time, and I'm a collector at heart, thus this insane urge to grab a backup when in case they are some magic gun and gone forever. The other side of me says "wait, there are other variations of the gun you haven't tried yet!" lol

Oh yeah, get it and try it out. The SP-01 is fantastic, I love my classic 75 Compact, and there's more beyond my little collection. You'll soon start your path down CZ addiction... And likely the upgrades addiction.

I don't doubt it. If it's anything like 1911 addiction (which I'm VERY well versed in) then this is a dangerous road to go down.

I've wanted a CZ-75 ever since I finger banged an EAA Tangolio Witness a few years back, but have held off because I'm a lefty and most of the good deals were on basic CZ 75s or CZ 75 compacts (both of which have right handed safeties), or the P07/P09 guns (not interested in polymer guns), but THIS is the perfect price, ambi safety, full steel etc....

long time lurker, took me nearly 4 hours to read through this thread, and i ended up buying one. many thanks to Scarlett Pistol (you caused me to lose money!).

this will be my first CZ. i thought i might be more comfortable with a decocker, but i figured, hey, its a decent price for great features.

i bought it from RifleGear.com, and intend to pricematch through my credit card to Mr. Gun Dealer. hope to hit $520 after FFL. i think that's a great value for any quality pistol let alone a CZ!

will have to go back through this thread carefully again and learn the anatomy, and all the tips and tricks for optimizing the firearm.

thank you all

Ha, yeah this is getting to be pretty long... Glad I could help your bank account!  O0 Feel free to PM me with any questions since I've helped create this monster. In a week or so my second one will be ready to show off again. Converted to SAO with the intent of giving any 1911 a run for its money in the trigger and accuracy departments.

If you've gone down the 1911 addiction path you're in trouble. You know you can easily convert these to SAO, right?

they can be converted to single action only? that's dangerous. I hear CZ's are easily upgraded, although I'd be a bit nervous trying on my first firearm + I like DA/SA guns as well (big sig fan until Sig QC and CS went into the crapper the last decade) so I may keep this one stock

if it's easy enough I might put in a short reset kit and change out the hammer/trigger I just have never tried anything like that before

one last question. what are the 3 dot sites on these? I've seen some retailers say that they're glow in the dark night sites while others just say "3 dot".

and yes, 1911 addiction is very VERY bad. I don't have a massive collection but I'm on my 5th one and am deciding between a Springer 9mm Range officer and the Ruger SR1911 9mm lightweight commander, so I don't have much hope for myself in the cz addiction. over on  1911forums I've been warned multiple times that If I start down the CZ path it will not end well for my wallet.

I've heard that about Sig and it's too bad.

Upgrades aren't bad at all. Lots of good threads in the gunsmithing section and I made a Playlist of videos trying to help out a little bit ago. I was actually using one of these SP-01 Compacts in the videos. If nothing else the CZ Custom Competition Hammer is almost necessary. I'm a trigger snob, but it just makes CZ's so much better!

Here's the thread on the impacts of upgrades:
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=83591.0

If the site's glow I never saw it in mine. I don't pay much attention to the rear dots... But the front isn't fantastic. To be honest the classic 75 Compact has the worst front sight I have ever seen, so I have easily used the front sight these came with. That being said quite a few guys have tried really nice sights on these and shared their feedback. I think most comments were somewhere in this thread.

gotcha, doesn't look too horrible. I may keep this one stock being my first CZ... wanna see how well they break in and smooth out etc...

and yeah, Sig went downhill about 2005. their debacle with the P220 stainless and P220 Carry models and the internal extractors was bad, but they pretty much covered it all up and things have just gone downhill from there. They're still good guns, it's just that their CS and QC issues make it so that I don't feel comfortable spending nearly a grand per gun when I can get amazing quality from CZ or a Springfield 1911 for hundreds less and no hassle.

cool, I doubted they have night sights, but they must have some slight luminescence or something instead. And good to know that they're not bad. I played with a 75B compact in the store one time and the sights were dog poo for sure. I was shocked.

I am buying my SP-01 Compact from K-Var, and they assured me the sights on it are tritium.  Has anyone gotten one with tritium sights?

CZ USA responded back to my question about the subject and said that they were luminescent, but not Night sights.

Just picked one up tonight, they are a cheap cz lumen' paint sight. I had to get one and I was there gettimg my tac-sport orange. (Evoloution armory in somersworth NH) i believe he has two tac sport oranges left as well as two compacts.

The two things I would change on the compact is the sights and the safety.
SP-01 (cajunized), SP-01 tactical Urban gray supressor ready, kadet II kit, P-01(cajunized), Tactical Sport 9mm, CZ97B, Tristar T-120(cajunized), Dan Wesson Bruin .45acp, Scorpion EVO pistol, Bren 805 Carbine

So I've got the CZ 75 compact... any reason to pass this up? Very tempting at the price point. Debating on selling the 75C and getting this sucker instead.

Flared magwell, extended mag release, pic rail, forward slide serrations, as well as any of the durability improvements from the OG SP-01.

What say you guys? Would you jump ship?

The safeties are pretty thin... Some people don't get a good reach to engage them (depending on hand size or grip style). Here's the thread on which safety to use and how to fit them.

http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=84002.0

Some people have complained about a safety that isn't quite as positive when engaged. After working on 5 (none had this) I think it is just a little tolerance thing or soft spring on the safety detent. Here's a thread where a member shared where to get a stronger detent spring that gets really positive engagement.
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=85575.0

Side note: the grease they ship these with is pretty goopy. Give your pistol a good cleaning, even in the sear cage and safety area. Cleans things up just like you'd hope. If that doesn't get the positive engagement you're looking for then snag a stronger spring.
