Hello everyone. Been considering the sp-01 compact for HD and concealed carry.
Any feedback on how this carries would be appreciated.

I originally wanted a P01 for CCW but since I have a 75SA i'd prefer the sp-01 compact due to it having a manual safety. I grew up shooting 1911's so carrying cocked and locked does not bother me.

Thanks!

I've also been carrying mine for about 2weeks. Weight dosen't seem to be a problem as long as one has a good belt  (something designed for carrying a pistol) and a good holster. The only problem I've encountered carrying it, is that I also carry a reload, and I've found the Mec-gar mags, and the factory CZ mags will start to rust rather easily. I've been using Renaissance Wax on the outside of the mags, and that seems to help, currently I'm thinking of sending some mags off to Robar, and have them coated. I think that will solve the problem. I really wish CZ / Mec-Gar would do something to make the mags more rust resistant. I'd be willing to pay for stainless mags. Other than that minor complaint, I've had no issues carrying it. I carry mine with the hammer on half cock, rather than cocked and locked. This works better for ME.

I agree, if you have a good belt and holster it won't be a problem at all. I was surprised when I started carrying mine, because its a heavy pistol, but it didn't feel bad when carrying AIWB. Like was said, if you want to carry cocked and locked then you'll probably want a safety that gives you more purchase. We have a list of parts if you end up pursuing that option. Just to be fair, it is a heavy pistol and I didn't buy it to carry, but I just ended up shooting it well, it was accurate to boot, and overall just a fantastic compact pistol. That led me to decide to try it for carry... and it worked. I live in a dry climate don't have the rust issue with mags.

NP3 is your friend!  Consider collecting a bunch of "small parts" as well.  Its been a while but Robar had resonable prices for misc pieces that can be placed in a "basket".  I did a NP3+ Norton Special on my Beretta 96 Centurion, a barrel crown and treatment, and a couple of CZ mags in NP3 to match my Matte Stainless.  Very pleased.  My only sticker shock pertained to overnight shipping of the gun frame (had them install new internals, spring, etc.).  No such requirements if not sending a serialized receiver.

Imo the gun feels just like a 1911 to carry, probably the same weight, only better because of the shorter frame. I agree the safety is thin but the more I carry it around the more I kind of enjoy the thin profile of these safety levers. Still going to order an extended lever anyways however.

Im actually using a mister softy holster that's compatible with the p01 at the moment. You feel the weight but the handgun really doesn't inhibit movement in any way.

I officially take you all off my Christmas card list for this thread (mostly because I won't be able to afford Xmas cards). I was happy with these two guns and now I decided to call up David at CGW and Stuart over at CZ Custom and see what each will cost to turn this into a 1911 killer

turn it into a single action only gun with a 3 lb (ish) trigger, polish, new springs, hammers other internals. new fiber optic front sights, an extra slide stop as backup and a fluff n buff.

my wife is NOT going to like the credit card bill

WOW, I just found this thread. I usually just keep up with the clones.
I have a P-01 and a friend shot it and decided to get one like it. So he shows up week before last and pulls out this ??? P-01 that has a steel frame and safeties?? I asked him why did he get that? "It's a Brick!"
I didn't even know they made a steel frame P-01. Oh, it says compact...not P-01. Anyway, not my cup of tea. I could tell he wasn't happy after comparing the weight. I figure he would probably sell it or trade it soon.
Now I could have tried to be a friend and take it off his hands after I read this.  O0 Instead I just called to tell him he has a Unicorn!  ;)

I stumbled on to another option this morning, while looking around on the 'net. There's a shop about 30 miles from me that does plating, both hard chrome, and satin nickel.. I'm going to call and see what they would want to do 4 mags in hard chrome. They say on their website that it's a 2-3 day turnaround, and I probably could drive up there and drop off/ pickup.I figure hard chrome would also work well for rust resistance.

They definitely aren't for everyone. Did he try shooting it yet? The stock is getting thinned out so if he holds on to it for 6 months he may turn it around and make a few bucks...

talking to Dave at CGW it seems it's MUCH less a P-01 except visually. more like a Shadow 2 compact with some SP-01 original features... supposedly the frame width is the shadow 2's... makes me wonder if the slide stop for the Shadow 2 would work too (if we get any shadow 2's in stock to test actually lol)

That's pretty much what it is, a dumbed down Shadowline Compact: http://www.czub.cz/en/cz-75-compact-shadow-line.html

Can anyone please confirm what the model number is for these? Interested in getting one. (I ordered a P-01 thinking it would be a all steel).
Ohh well, an excuse to get another CZ! LOL
