Hello All,

I'm new to the forum.  I just bought a P-09 this week.  I've been shooting rifles for decades, but this if the first pistol I've purchased.  I took it to the range today.  It ran well.  I didn't.  I was all over the place.  I think I've got a flinch / recoil anticipation issue that doesn't show so much with a rifle.  I guess that's what more ammo and practice are for.  :)

Hi Ethan,

These are great pistols, a diamond in the rough! The trigger pulls are really heavy.

Trigger flinch is a normal thing. To get the best of this, you need to train your brain a bit by dry fireing practice. However, these guns do not really take well to a lot of dry fire without certain measures being taken.

To begin with, a small o-ring under the hammer inserted into the back of the slide around the fireing pin in an oval condition, with the alternate being snap caps.

The best way to improve the gun at the same time as making it resilient to dry fire would be to order the Cajun Gun Works parts for with the extended fireing pin and retainer pin along with the lighter hammer spring. Call CGW for info! It don't cost much and if you have any skill you can install yourself. Cut your DA pull by 4# or so and the SA by 1 or 2. Makes much more manageable.

Hope that helps,

Welcome. Dry fire, dry fire, dry fire... What Copemech said.

- You can only fight the way you practice.

Thanks for the info.  I've bought some snap caps, and I caught myself blinking with those the first two times I pulled the trigger.  That stopped quickly though.  I'll just keep working with them for a bit.

I changed it from decocker to safety the other day, and that seems to have reduced the SA trigger pull a bit.

Is it possible to switch this gun back and forth between 9mm and 40 caliber?

Welcome to the forum. I love my P-07 and it is a ton of fun to shoot. It will make some pretty small groups on paper and the point-of-aim / point-of-impact is spot on for me. My trigger is great out of the box and only got better after a few hundred rounds.

I've done some dry firing too. I like to aim at a certain spot and try to stay on that spot after I click the trigger.

I got a Fobus OWB retention holster at Amazon for $25 and it is sweet. Does not have a button to release. The holster has a paddle that will slip behind your belt and is plenty secure for the range.

Congratulations on getting your P-09! You could switch between a 9mm and .40 if you had the parts. Right now it would probably be cheaper to buy a another P-09 in .40, they're selling for less than $400.
To help you get used to your P-09 you may want to try shooting it from a rest. This way you can see how accurate your P-09 actually is. Then with practice you can work towards being that accurate shooting free hand. Happy shooting!

Ethan just a little tip for when your dry firing, stand up  one of the 9mm cartridges on top of the slide right behind the front sight squeeze the trigger without knocking the cartridge off the top of the gun.
If you don't have an o ring .I cut a square pencil eraser  i had lying around ,cut a piece about an eighth of an inch thick and the width of the back of the slide where the firing pin is place it there and dry fire all you want.

Welcome! I have a few CZ's and my P-09 is my favorite range toy.

That's a good idea using the piece of eraser.  I use the o-ring too but I once forgot it and when I next went to shoot at my back yard range, the gun went 'click' when it should have gone 'boom'.

Two things:  First, I noticed I jerked the trigger since there was no recoil to mask my poor technique.  Second, if it had been an emergency and I had expected a 'boom', it would have been a bad surprise.

The eraser piece is much more visible.

Also, check out some Youtube videos about practicing for handgun accuracy.  There are a lot of good tips there.

Enjoy!
