SP-01 Compact with Tactical Sport Safety
« on: November 17, 2016, 11:51:29 PM »
Quick summary, don't have much time tonight. It fits! Sticks out a little on the right side. My right side safety is a really tight fit to the left hand safety rode on the OEM safety and this one. Had to polish down the safety rod a little for both to more easily slide into place. If the shadow safety has the same distance to the sear spring cut then I think it should fit, but call one of the shops and double check. Pics are terrible lighting and the gun is a little dirty, but I hope it helps.

Looks great!  What grip tape is on that?  I probably won't have mine all finished up until after the 1st of the year.  Thanks for all the updates on your progress!

I love the grips , I am pretty sure my massive hands wouldn't though. Also I wish they made the blue for the compact

Thanks! The grip tape... It's pretty special stuff made for high impact usage and extreme wear. I stopped by a skate shop and asked if they had a scrap piece left from putting it on a board. They gave me a decent sized piece that has lasted 8 applications or re-applications and I won't run out anytime soon.  Free and effective!

I really wanted red but didn't want to have to spend another $10 for the slowest shipping possible from Cz-usa... So I snagged these when I ordered parts from CGW. They are great! Wish I had your hand size problem....

This tactical sport safety is a huge win! Perfect fitment for the wide frame walls.  The grips I prefer on the steel-frame "SP Compact" have a high thumb guide with a swell at the top of it, which made it impossible to actuate the ultra-slim D-style ambi safety that came on the gun.  The TS safety EXACTLY fits flush with the top of the grip panel, and is a cinch to reach and operate.  I fitted the safety lever in just minutes, with a fine dremel grinder to flatten out the flat notch that feeds into the right-side safety lever, and it took just another moment to slightly grind down the safety's sear engagement lug to the right height and contour.  I then slightly notched the top portion of the grip panel so the new safety would pivot freely with plenty of clearance for the lower rear portion of the safety toggle.

I had this TS safety in and fully functioning in about 5 minutes. It is EXACTLY what I was looking for, particularly to allow me to run the grip panels I've used on all my CZ's for many years, and still be able to effortlessly function the safety at speed.  Many other grip styles folks use out there, such as LOK, won't even require tweaks for clearance of the safety lever. This works awesome, and makes the pistol perfect now. I LOVE it!

...And the slight notch in the grip....sacrificing a little aesthetics for perfect function....

I don't understand CZ's logic behind putting the ultra-slim D-style ambi safety on this gun.  On a carry piece that can run cocked and locked, the safety is more important to be able to function instinctively and cleanly/effortlessly than the slide stop.  Furthermore, the slide stop itself is not ultra-slim, and sticks out quite far on both sides, just 1/2" in front of the safety, so having a thinner safety doesn't really help with holstering, comfort and concealment, with the slide stop sticking out right in front of it LOL!  I like the hybrid I have going on now, with the right-side safety still being slim, and the left side safety being the TS standard profile which sticks out just about the same distance as the slide stop.

I'd love to see Cajun or CZC make a simple right-side safety delete collar, that will let you convert an ambi safety to a non-ambi, for us right-handers that don't want the ambi feature and the extra moving parts.

I agree, it was bizarre, but it was whomever put in this custom order requested it... But I really like this TS safety on these SP-01 Compacts!
I remember seeing some threads where someone was making exactly what your describing. I don't know why, but I am thinking it was Joe L, the bullseye shooter. I could be totally wrong though.... I'll look around when I am off work and see if I can dig those threads up.

There was a forum member that was making these. it was for tumbler style because it was done for the stainless pistol to do a Crimson Trace grip. its nice. ( I got a couple of them at the time)

I almost bought one of these Compacts yesterday. I just sold a standard compact recently and decided to get a New one this time instead of used. I played with both of them for a little while and then went home and slept on it.  The only thing that killed it for me was that I wanted to carry it daily. The slightly wider frame and weight, let alone I'll never realistically use the rail while carrying it

Sounds like you need a pcr good sir. Or a rami. The guys on that sub forum make it tough on me to not get a rami.

I received my Rami slim slide stop for the steel compact today. It matches the slim safeties perfectly, only problem is I can't rack the slide. The Rami slide stop does fit and function in my Shadow so it will stay there. I put the P01 slide stop on the steel compact and it fits and functions fine. I guess I will order a new P01 slide stop.

The slightly wider frame and weight, let alone I'll never realistically use the rail while carrying it so, I just went with another standard compact with steel frame. And the extra 70 bucks I saved will get me another set of Lok grips and a mag. Nice-looking pistol...
