CZ P-09 grip chop?
« on: January 07, 2017, 09:24:19 PM »
I had a Glock 17 with the chopped grip that would run G19 mags awhile back. I could never get past the blocky grip and let it go. I'd like to do the same with the P-09 and run P-07 mags with he shorter grip.
With the hammer, I'm not sure how I'd go about chopping the P-09 or if it's even possible.
Anyone know how to do this or if I can?

I dont believe this would be possible with the hammer spring running the length of the pistol grip.

Yep that's just the problem. Plus having no way to properly attach the back straps after cutting the frame. I don't think I'd attempt this. I can see a ruined gun pretty quickly.

Would a P07 hammer spring and guide work in a  shortened frame?  I guess you'd have to drill another hole for the hammer spring cup/lanyard loop - and make sure it was in the right spot.  You'd probably need P07 grip inserts.

I don't know if the frame is strong enough/has enough plastic in the right spots to drill a new pin hole or not.

I understand the desire to have a shorter grip frame for EDC.  I carried my P09 for a week or so last spring when I was having the RMR put on my P07 and I didn't like it.  The grip just sticks out too much.  I don't even carry the P07 with the +2 bases on the P07 magazines.  It just feels like it sticks out enough to be seen/sensed.

Any reason for wanting the P09 barrel/slide length over a P07 barrel/slide length for an EDC pistols?  The P07's are plenty accurate.  One of the members here (Joe) has used/won bullseye matches at his club with a P07.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I really like a longer barrel with the short grip. My first carry gun was a 1911 CCO and ever since the , I've just loved the aesthetics of the long barrel with a short grip.
I'm also curious if it'd be possible to use the P-07 hammer spring and pin in the P-09 or if that'd work. I've never had difficulty hiding the barrel on a ccp, but the longer grips do become difficult to dress around.
I'm really hoping this mod is possible.

The only hope you have is to give CZ Custom and Cajun Gun Works a call and see what their thoughts are on the idea. If it can be done one of them will be about the only ones capable of doing it.

It would probably be easier to just purchase a P09 Upper and install it on the P07 frame.  I assume this is possible but don't own either variant.  It is possible on the 75 series of guns generally.

You would lose the full length dust cover and I'm not sure how it would look.

P07 frame dustcover is too short will leave recoil spring assembly exposed.

We have talked about this modification and it looks like it should be able to be accomplished.

I was wondering if the shroud? on the upper wouldn't cover the guide rod/recoil spring.

Do the uppers fit and function (aside from the looks)?

Cheers,

Well. A P07 has been grip chopped to take RAMI mags flushed. I'm sure all the internal customizing mentioned above was done and could be done on P09.

This guy figured out how to do it...

In my mind I see needing a shorter hammer-strut and spring (maybe from a Rami?) and then you need to re-drill a hole for the cross-pin that holds the cap/spring in place but that's just a quick thinking over of the project.  I really wonder how he dealt with the magazine issue on the one above, but a shortened P-09 would be fairly easy by comparison cause you could just use a P-07 mag and hammer-strut I'd imagine.

What about using an extended or threaded barrel in the P-07, unless you want the longer sight radius or more front end weight from the slide. Just another option (of course you probably already thought of it) ;D

Good looking conversion.

Mags , would need to shorten and bend new baseplate tabs.
