I was afraid this would happen if I bought a P-07
« on: April 09, 2017, 11:06:40 PM »
I used to own a P-07 Gen1, the model with the extended barrel and night sights. The gun had an incredible trigger. 7.75# DA and 4# single action, both buttery smooth. In fact that P-07 shamed my Beretta PX4 which otherwise also had a very nice trigger. I did not love the slide, especially the blunt corners and the lack of forward slide serrations, but the gun was an amazing shooter. Since it was just a range toy I did not have a problem selling it when a motivated buyer came around. Then CZ came out with the Gen2 P-07 which seemed to address everything I did not like about the Gen1. It took me a long time to come around but last week I finally ordered one. Absolutely NO ONE in 100 miles of me stocks any CZ firearms so I had no choice but to order one and take my chances. When it arrived I was both excited and  disappointed. The trigger is awful. I am getting around 11lbs and 10oz on my Lyman digital in DA and around 5lbs 4oz in SA. DA is like flicking a circuit breaker only not as smooth or predictable. I spent the weekend dry firing this thing like a maniac. I lost count after a few hundred times pulling the DA trigger on a snap cap. So far not discernible improvement. So now I have to order in some replacement springs, take the gun apart, do some polishing, upgrade some springs, etc., etc. After such a wonderful experience the first time around I am less than thrilled that it is going to take another $25+ and an hour or two to get this Gen2 close to the same league as my former Gen1. This is one of those time I wish I would have just sent it in for some slide milling and dehorning.  I am sure a month from now when the trigger is improved and I have 500+ rounds through it I will be singing a different tune.

Have you considered contacting CZ-USA and letting them know your disappointments? I am fairly new to CZ and not real well aquainted with how they work. But I did that with my Sig P238 I was disappointed with and they brought it is and upgraded several parts for me and sent it back and have been much happier since.

The trigger on my Duty is heavy but smooth compared to my P-09. No polishing just lots of round through it, enough to break two trigger return springs.  Unfortunately, my P-09 trigger  is just good but not great.

I empathize with you.

Well, I have not been happy with the triggers on any of my CZs out of the box. They ranged from awful to even awfuller ;-) Others may have had better luck or just not been as"picky" as me...

After my first was upgraded with CGW parts I just factor that expense into each new purchase. Is it cheap? No. Does it take an otherwise great gun and make it exceptional? Absolutely.  I could easily spend more money on other guns and not be nearly as happy as I am with my Cajunized CZs.

Same here. I usually order parts to slick up the trigger pull at the same time I order the gun just as a matter of course with the CZ. I think it is one of the reasons I like CZs - I get to personalize them to my liking.

I tune all my pistols to my liking so nothing stays stock. I'll run a few hundred rnds through a new pistol to be sure it has no glaring defects and then apart it come. CGW id your friend.

That is one of the things I really like as well... with emphasis on the "I". I've had guns that had to be tuned by NASA or whatnot and did not like the feeling that I wasn't allowed in the special club that could work on my guns. I certainly know my limitations as a kitchen table gunsmith but throwing some ProGrade parts in an Omega-based P-series CZ is not too hard, especially with the great YouTube vids that Joe has done. Schmecky has also contributed a lot to this community, sharing his deep knowledge of how to really tune these guns for those who want to go beyond simple part swaps.

I only wish I was content to just swap out the mainspring, TRS and a few pins as some are - the CGW hammer upgrade turned me into a total trigger snob LOL

My Gen 1 P07 .40 S&W came out of the box with a 3&1/4 SA trigger pull and about 8&1/2 DA (been awhile since I checked all of those pistols when I got that new gauge).

The P07 led to a P09 (that and Joe's videos) and the trigger wasn't nearly as good on the P09.  Same for the second P09 I bought (first was a 9MM and second was a .40 S&W).  My youngest son got himself a P07 and it is probably the worst trigger of the four.  Now that he has the CZ 75 SA he almost doesn't shoot the P07 (shoots a group or two when we go to the range and then puts it away to burn ammo through the CZ 75 SA.)

I don't know if it's just one gun to the next variation or something about the manufacturing/assembly process changed between the DUTY pistols and the newer P07's.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

My po7 Gen 2, I have done the following.

Reduced power trigger return spring.
Stoned and Polished trigger bar, ( I personally spent extra time on the flat part where it meets the frame it's like glass)
Polished all interior metal to metal contact points.
CGW Reduced power FP spring.
CGW FP retaining pin.
CGW 15# hammer spring .
Polished the block plunger and put in CGW  BP Spring.
Bent and relaxed the trigger bar Spring.
Trigger pull w/ lyman gauge..
DA 8#11oz - SA 2#8oz
AND "DON'T" SAND & POLISH TO MUCH !!!
Just take the roughness off the factory stamp parts and polish.
I thought more was better and did too much and threw off the timing and had to replace parts, any of the experienced guys on this forum can tell you that is a fact !!!!

I bought a 2016 P-07 last year in June. I thought the trigger on it had a crisper break than the trigger on the 2014 P-09 I had. They both had around 3.75 # SA triggers. The DA triggers on both of these pistols was over 10 lbs.
I was pretty happy with the SA trigger on my P-07, but I thought I could make it even better with a little polishing. The polishing worked even a little better than I really wanted. I gained an even crisper break and I got my SA trigger down to around 3.25 lbs, which would be great for some people, but it was too light for what I wanted for self defense. I ended up installing a heavier sear spring and now it perfect for me at around 4 lbs.
I'd do a little polishing first before I bought the CGW  3 spring kit, but I think that'll be the only way you'll get your DA trigger down to around 7 lbs. I installed the CGW 3 spring kit in my SP-01 and it made a huge difference in both SA and DA triggers. Good luck!

It's gonna be a few weeks before I can get to it, but I have some new sights and some new springs on order. Hopefully soon it will be an entirely new & improved gun.

I love tuning a gun.  I like to shoot groups with a new gun then tune and shoot more groups.  When I see the size of those groups shrink, it gives me a real feeling of accomplishment.

I wouldn't be alarmed at all unless you just don't like working on your guns.  I get that it maybe shouldn't vary so much from one to the other but these Omega trigger systems really can be tuned well.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

It took me two years before I decided to drop in a CGW hammer in my P-09. I regret not doing it earlier, it truly is a different pistol with the upgraded hammer.

I was easier to sway - it took me two weeks... but you are right: night and day difference. Kudos to David @ CGW for amazing work!!

I'll be honest and admit I have yet to get hands on with a 1911 trigger that pleased me more... not saying they don't exist but they surely must be way out of my price range ;-)
