CZ 75 Tactical Sport - Grip Size? Trigger Reach Distance?
« on: June 13, 2017, 11:41:22 AM »
Hi all,

I am considering the TS for my first 9mm. My hands are small to medium and I have heard that the grips on the TS are huge. Since I would have to drive 626 km (one way) to see the gun for myself, I would like to know as much as possible in advance. People at glocktalk helped me with this link (http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=86695.0) so I know how thick the grip is.

I would be very grateful if someone  could give me the width of the grip (including the gun/frame) and the trigger reach distance. This would give me a rough idea whether my hands are big enough to handle the gun.

I have short/small hands as well and I cannot reach the slide release with my strong hand thumb. I have to use my support hand. That said I have veen using the stock grips for about 10 matches and 3000 practice rounds without issue.

I have just put on the thin aluminum CZ Custom grips with grip tape which is much thinner especially at the part where the thimb would wrap around and will be trying that one.

I have also ordered the Lok thin boogies with is practically the same width but much aggressive texture.

There is a thread here that has measurements of the grip. I will try to look and paste the  linkm

Thank you so much for helping me out. Good to hear that there is at least one person with small hands being able to shoot it. From the thread I can see how thick the grip is. What I don't know is the distance from the back of the grip to the front of it and also the distance from the back of the grip to the trigger. It would mean a lot if you or someone else could give me those measures.

Getting a new gun in Sweden is not as easy as in some other countries. First my club has to certify that I need the gun, then I need to apply for a 5 year time limited license and after that I can go buy the gun. This means that I have to decide what gun to buy and stick with it or begin a new process with the club, police etc. There are also no big gun shops, with guns from all or most of the manufacturers, making it hard to check the guns out. Just starting out in a small club I haven't had the chance to meet a lot of people with different guns yet. In my club there are mostly glocks and sigs when it comes to 9mm.

How do you like the gun so far? Something you like or dislike about it?

That reminds me to buy a replacement caliper as mine broke.

I like my TS very much. Its a pure bred competition gun. <2lbs trigger pull short and crisp reset. With 147 gr 9mm sights barely move.

I have small hands. So much so that on my CZ85 I installed CGW's trigger reduce reach kit (sic). While it did set the trigger reach back a few mm, I found it not enough and ended getting used to the longer reach. Now, onto the TS .40. I love my TS and I found the stock wood grips to be a bit slippery so I opted for the aluminum thin grips.

The thin grips do narrow the grip and the reach was comfortable. I do have to switch my grip to reach the mag release. But that works fine in competition. To get good traction I placed aggressive skaters tape. The grip is quite sure and firm (t my liking) and there is ample trigger finger room

All in all, I think this should not be a deal breaker for you as the grip choices will resolve any length issue you may have.

1) the aluminum grips make for a narrow frame and a good positive reach.
2) the stock grips are a little wider, but traction seems lacking.
3) Modifying the rubber grips gives a nice molded feeling that, if you use a grip strengthener you will find quite workable.

I suppose my only caveat is if your fingers are on the bell curve fringe of shortness there may be an issue.
It all sounded a lot funnier in my head.

Short/small here as well.   No problems shooting my stock SP-01.  No problems reaching the slide release with my strong hand.  Mine is just under 1.5" wide and the TS slightly over 1.75".

Hard to tell from the pictures but I think the stock TS would be too big for me.  I'm sure the aluminum grips make a difference based on what I've read here and elsewhere.  Just haven't had the need but might do it anyway someday soon.

I'm also pretty sure I can shoot the SP-01 as good as I could the "better" TS.  I'm not good enough for the difference to show up in my accuracy.  But I think the smaller one would be easier for me even in the long run.  I don't do too bad with my SIG P938 given its diminutive size.

The P938 and SP-01 comprise the limits of my comfort zone.

That's my two cents which when adjusted for inflation isn't worth what it used to be

The magwell is for the TS line. It's larger than the one for the shadow (width-wise).
Fit perfectly. Alu grips have to be the short ones... Or file down the other ones.

The TSO/czechmate should the exact same frames as the regular TS so the magwells should fit all of these. I bought mine in Eastern Europe.

Many owners do a grip reduction on their tactical sports.  The straight trigger will also reduce the reach to the trigger.

I found the slim copper compact grips added to the TS magwell like the one in the pic above works well with a little fitting to the bottom of the grip panels.

I also find the stock trigger on my TSO way to light (mine was 1.12lbs per 10 pull average) and asked CGW for help raising the trigger pull.  New hammer and adjustable sear later it's up to 2.9lbs and very crisp.  IMO, 1.12 on a pivot trigger is too light!  I also added the CZC large Tactical Sport LH safety at the same time.  It's a much better (for me) gun now!
