Problems with Brass
« on: September 30, 2017, 06:48:30 PM »
I picked up a used CZ 75 B recently. I tried Winchester 115 grain and could not get through a magazine without at least one failure to eject the empty case. I then tried some steel case 115 grain and the gun runs great. What is the most likely problem?

Worn extractor hook or extractor spring?

Make sure the extractor and the chamber are very clean. I had the problem two outings in a row on a nearly new 75B. It did better on the 2nd outing after cleaning (still had maybe 1 in 50 FTE).

If your talking about the Winchester value packs, I've ran around 3K rounds of 40 cal thru my XD and a couple of 3rd generation Smiths without any problems. I cannot go to the range one time without having problems with this ammo in 9mm. In addition to the 75B fail to eject issues, I,ve had fail to fire issues in the the 75B and P10C. Every time the primer was visibly low, but went bang first shot in two different S&W Shields.

Never had the problem with different ammo in the P10C. The 75B was a borrowed gun, and I never tried different ammo in it.

BTW I still want one. :)

Winchester white box has a noticeably smaller rim than most other ammo.  So it's more finicky if the extractor isn't tuned right.

Thanks! Good to know I'm not the only one having problems. I think I need to run the 75B again with everything but white box ammo.

Had this problem, not on a CZ, but same issue and ammo. Issue turned out to be oil on the extractor from cleaning the gun.
Extractors should be dry. Once that was corrected, no more issues, even with WWB.

Pay close attention to the extractor and it's spring. My 75BD at about 10K rnds developed the same issue. The extractor was worn and chipped. After replacement the gun has been flawless through another 10K rnds. All 6 of my CZ 9mm's function flawlessly on WWB and any other cheap ammo. Yours should too.

Like  SVis,  my 75 Shadow started having extraction problems.  I couldn't "see" and extractor problem until I removed it from the pistol and took a really close look at the blade.  It had a tiny half-moon chip out where it slides into the case  extractor groove.

After more than 20k++ RDS it got tired.  A new one fixed it .

Thanks to all for your help with my problem. I inspected the extractor and it looked good. I then replaced the extractor spring with the high power spring from Midway. I shot a box of Winchester white box yesterday and everything was good.
