New SIG 2022

I traded away my Witness Sport Long Slide a couple of weeks ago, for a ANIB (less than a box of ammo through it) SIGPRO 2022 (.357 SIG).

Lots of folks sneer about the "PRO"-series SIGS, but I like them.

I wasn't shooting the Long Slide (after getting my SIG GSR), and was hankering for something different.  I didn't really want a .357 SIG, but thought. "What the hay?"  It was offered as an even trade, and they were comparable in value.  (Maybe a little less, as I threw in 3 extra mags.)

This gun came with night sights and 3 x 12 rounds mag.  It has the stock extra/alternative grip.

I've been pleasantly surprised:

1) typically top-quality SIG fit and finish, despite the polymer frame.

2) fair double-action trigger, nice single action trigger.  It can only get better.  May or may not get a trigger job.

3) Surprisingly, more pleasant to shoot than the other .357 SIG guns I've tried.

4) Only the second gun I've got (the Glock 34 is the other) that lets me work all of the controls without changing my grip.  (The slide release is particularly easy to activate.)

----------------------------------------------------------

I never shoot a new gun well the first time out -- it usually takes a couple of range sessions for me to adjust to the gun, but I was doing pretty well with it -- at 30': about 1/2 the shots in a small group in the black, with the other 6 trailing down to the left.  I suspect I was anticipating recoil.  Despite that, it had a suprisingly mild recoil with the polymer frame.

I may offer this one up for trade, one of these days, after I get tired of paying for .357 SIG ammo.

Don't trade it, buy the .40SW barrel from Barsto or Sig.

I don't think they make conversion barrels for the 2022, yet.

(They're aren't shown on their website, yet.)

It may be that the factory barrels will interchange.  I need to ask on the SIG FORUM...

   "truth is stranger than fiction"

    I have a 9mm Bar-sto with polished ramp from a Sig 2340
with an extra inch in length, unported. Bought it a year ago from Irv. Sold the gun,.40 and .357 barrels, kept the Bar-sto. If the lockup on your new 2022  is the same as the 2340, you can have it for little, or trade something cz, like compact checkered grips.

  Enjoy the new gun .

I'll have to check to see if they are compatible.  But I'm definitely interested, if they are.

About the only thing I've got of value from the world of CZ, right now, are some pre-B grips that look like new except for a ding on the bottom edge of one panel, and some Mec-Gar hi-caps.

Let me find of if the barrel will work.

I have no reason to believe the barrel from the 2340 won't work in your 2022, they are basically the same gun.

"Lots of folks sneer about the "PRO"-series SIGS, but I like them."

I have heard zero sneering,  just the opposite.  A student of mine qualified with one.  I bought it a few months later (not his, but a NIB).  I agree with you.  A phenomenal pistol for sure.   Love the trigger and the ergonomics.  Although I would have kept the Witness as well.  Two great guns are better than one!:D
Zero malfunctions so far in mine with both FMJ and JHP loads of every kind.  Mine is a .40SW

The folks who do the sneering are typically owners of 228s, 226s, and 220s.  They, like 1911 fanatics, can't tolerate plastic, even if it has a good name.

With regard to keeping the Witness:

There comes a point where you can end up with far more guns than you can shoot.

I would argue that 1) unless you're fixated on guns in some way (a power thing), 2) see guns as an extension of your manhood (a psycho-sexual thing), or 3) have convinced yourself that they REALLY are a good investment (bad investment advice), there comes a time to trade or sell some of them.

I've still got about 15 handguns, but the average quality/value/bragging rights associated with that collection is slowing improving.  I've done most of this "improvement" with a remarkably small outlay of cash -- just horse trading.

I have an uncle who has never sold  a gun.  He's got two big gun safes.  He's spent a fortune on guns, and considers them INVESTMENTS that will be passed on to his kids.  I know enough about investments , however, to understand he would have done far better with a couple of Certificate of Deposits -- and CDs are relatively poor ways to manage money.

Too much psychoanalysis,  guns are cool,  we are men, end of story.  :D

Not blasphemy, KPIII.  Just an observation. (But my uncle would agree with you.  He's my uncle, but he's only 5 years older than me.  More like a cousin.)

You can control your habits or they can control you.

There are guys on the Curio & Relic forums, for example, that have 30-40 old Mausers, most of them the same models.  Most of them raunchy and not worth much. Some of their brothers-in-arms also have a lot of Mosin Nagents -- most of which are in rough shape.   I'd still like a nice Model 39, but that's about it.

A lot of men have a COLLECTOR'S habit.  When they're wealthy, they collect costly things; when their poor, they collect inexpensive things.  Some of us in the middle collect nicer guns.

(I once had a classical music "jones" and had many hundreds of LPs -- still have several hundred that I hope to someday transfer to CD.)

And then there are books.   Except I give the books to Charity, and get a tax deduction.

I like shooting guns, not piling them up in the gun safe.

"not piling them up in the gun safe. "

No safequeens? >D
No early German Police Walthers in mint conditions?
No first generation Ruger Blackhawks?
No commemorative CZ75s?
No NRA commemorative simulated pearl gripped MKII Ruger target pistols?  (I have two).

:D :D :D :D

Also,  I think its great that you give books to charity,  I do the same, its a great thing to spread literacy.

but back to the SIGSP2022,   Sig really did a great job with it.  Ergonomically, It fits my hand even better than the Springfield XD.

Hmmm... I wonder if this shot patterning is characteristic of the Sig Pros. My recently-purchased SP2340 (images here, here and here) is surprisingly accurate: sub-2" offhand slowfire 20 yard groups seem to be the norm with my handloads. Unfortunately, these groups are consistently centered about 4" below the bullseye.

The pistol came with a #8 rear sight; I purchased a taller #9 rear sight for all of $3 from CDNN (versus $50 directly from Sig!), but have thus far not found a viable means of removing the existing rear sight from the slide, as the slide's tapered cross-section causes it to always heel over in the sight removal jig when sideways pressure is applied to sight, regardless of how tightly it is clamped in place.

CDNN was at one point selling a factory sight removal tool for $70, but they have been out of it for several months now.

The Sig sight pusher is not designed to work on the Pro series. I believe Brownells may sell a generic one that works.
