Rings for Nikon Prostaff Target EFR
« on: February 04, 2018, 10:29:06 PM »
Sorry if this has been discussed before. I purchased a CZ 452 American and thinking about a Nikon Prostaff Target EFR. If I go with Burris Signature rings, should I get high or medium, thanks.

This chart might be helpful.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jE6mRpBPhhd6RpTBzeaGh_z6C7X4b8p2ZD2s9MmCz2w/edit#gid=0

It's a listing of what others have done. If you don't see your exact scope listed, you can at least compare dimensions.

Thanks, Ill take a look. After checking its a hard choice between Leupold FX-1 4X28 or Nikon.

Leupold scopes have smaller ocular and objective bells than the Nikons,

I have a Leupold FX1 Rimfire 4x28 on my FS with Warne QD mediums. It fits behind the rear sight and sits plenty low.

If you're going to be hunting, the leupold is plenty. Any target work at all, and you'll appreciate the extra power of the Nikon, and might want more.

That would be more suitable for target work. Do you have a choice of reticle? If so, for target you want fine. If you're going to use the rifle for hunting you'd want something a little less fine to be able to see it against a woods background.

I think that scope may need high rings. I can ask a guy that's a Weaver/CZ fanatic.

Thanks for all the advice. Maybe your friend could comment on the Weaver Classic V-Series 6-24x42mm, I was looking at that first but read more negative comments about it than the 4x16. Thanks again for the help.

I'll ask.

Here goes...

Quote
It all depends on what this person wants/needs...those two scopes are the same size...the only different is the Objective adjustment range and the magnification. The internal adjustments I have been told is the V-16 has more range than the V-24. I have never had a elevation problem with either scope...but I shoot Magnums 17hmr and 22mag.

I like the V-16 better because of the magnification range with 4x so I can chase rabbits and other small game...and 16x for those close up personal touch when needed.

If he wants better glass then I would recommend the Weaver Grand Slam 4-16x in Dual X, EBX or the Varmint EBX...which is my favorite reticle in the GS line...and Ballistic X in the V series. Natchez had the GS Dual X for $270 same price as the V-16 was...they are sold out as of two days ago.

Just for information the Objective on the GS 4-16x is the same size as the V-16/V-24 is. The thing I really like the V-16 scope is the Objective goes down to below 30 Feet.

What is he looking for...a hunting set up or bench shooting...need some more info on what he needs. I have like 18x V-16 and 4x V-24s, 6x GS 4-16 and 3x GS 5-20x scopes.

Scope rings are Burris 420076, 420554 and Weaver Grand Slam 49219...depending on rifle.

So are you hunting, or shooting of a bench? ;D

I have that scope on a 10/22 and 455, both have warne Med. rings. Love the Nikon PROSTAFF Target EFR. The parallax adjustment is a huge advantage.

Thanks so much for the help painter, I really appreciate the time you took to help me. More shooting from bench than hunting.

Scope finally arrived. I tried the Burris Signature 420554 but the bolt hit. Not sure what direction to go in. I would like to stick with the Signature style but Im afraid if I go with the tall that would be to high. The bolt barely hits. I was thinking maybe the CZ 3/8" to WEAVER SCOPE RAIL ADAPTERS and seeing if that would work. Its that or going with the Burris 420076 which is not the Signature style. Any suggestions would really be appreciated, thanks.

Can you move the scope rearward slightly, either the rings on the dovetail or the scope in the rings, without losing your eye relief?

Sounds like you don't need much.
