What a bummer! The indoor range I've used for the last 10 years has changed there ammo policy. They will not allow you to bring your own new ammo, and they will only allow reloaded ammo a couple days a month. You now have to purchase your ammo from them. They said there landlord raised there rent 54%, and they need to make up the lose this way. I really think they'll loose customers though. This will really limit my shooting time and I really love reloading.

What a crock. I'd explain to them that maybe raising thier prices a modest amount will help more than losing thier customer base. I always take reloads, and printed targets to the range, and only spend the range fee, but I can spend that somewhere else, too, if need be.

Ditto, what Armoredman said!

54% increase in rent?  I'ld move the Range, if possible!  Never build a Range on Rented Property, if at all possible!  If the Landlord thinks they can raise your rent because you can't move or the property changes hands to someone less sympathetic to shooting, or someone preferring to sell the land to developers, you're lost!  Seen quite a few Ranges close because of such dealings!

The Ranges I use now, OWN the land they are on, and are appropriately zoned for their usage!

Although some ranges are experiencing legitimate increases in rent/lease due to zoning and other considerations,  a 54% increase excuse is hogwash and it is more likely they are trying to increase the bottom line.
I am willing to bet the price of their ammo is 30-40% higher than Walmart or other sporting good stores, as well as good gun shops.
I would tell them you are leaving and you are telling your friends to leave, and they will tell their friends.  Strength in numbers.

Kind of like what Lyle Lovett sings. "You may not be from Texas, you may not be from Texas, you may not be from Texas; But, Texas wants you anyway!"

We only put sheds over our shooting stations so we can shoot in the rain! Even with that, I hate 'em. If God had intended man to shoot indoors, he would have limited us to ammunition with a 50' capability!;)

+1 I am shooting more outdoors. Bad weather just helps you train better.

And when you guys are braving the elements in the middle of winter or summer, our IDPA club shoots indoors.  Nothing like having a match during a snow storm...  <grin>

Outdoors is nice, but so is having an alternative.

A match during a snowstorm would be fun.  Since I am in Florida,  I have not seen snow for over a decade. :)

Our Indoor Pistol Club has 3 ranges. 2 are 75 feet (25 yards) and one is 50 feet.  It's nice to be out of the elements when it is very cold and rainy.

One of the Rifle Clubs I frequent had a "Siberian Military Rifle Match" held the beginning of February in -20 degree weather with a fresh 8 inches of Snow on the ground.

We were assigned squads, Red and Blue. Then we put our Ammo and /or magazines at our Shooting Points. Then we slung our rifles and marched 5 miles, returning to the range.  We took up our shooting points and were commanded to load and fire at our respective targets. After the Targets were scored, we had shootoffs at a large Tomato at 100 yards.  You got 1 shot at it.  Mine went about 1 inch high.  The winner got it with a Norinco AK.

It was an interesting experience as some of the shooters found what worked for them in cold weather and what did not.  As for myself, my L1A1 FAL worked flawlessly as expected, however I found that loading magazines with heavy gloves on quite awkward.  Tried Driving Gloves and they were better but not very warm.  Will have to shop for some better Gloves.

Well my son and I went to the indoor range on Sunday. He wanted to practice for his Coast Guard re-qualification. We also wanted to see what the new rules were after they made the switch to buying ammo at the range. Only one other person was shooting, out of 25 lanes only 2 in use. The only ammo they had in 9mm was Speer Lawman @ $9.75 a box. My custom 9mm reloads cost me roughly .0789 ea compared to there price of.195 ea round. With 3 boxes of ammo, lane fee, and targets, the total came to $42.25. I don't think we'll be going bach in the near future.

Don't blame you for not going back there!  I think they'll find that they have priced themselves out of the market.
