CFE Pistol powder for 45ACP
« on: March 13, 2018, 04:03:37 PM »
I've loaded a series of test loads for my 1911 using CFE Pistol. Wow, it is the most consistent metering pistol powder I've used in my RCBS Uniflow powder measure. Lets hope is shoots as well!

Anybody else tried it in .45 AP yet?

I tried it in .45 and did not care for it. It took over 6 grns to get me Power factor of 167 which is too close for comfort and the recoil felt extreme.
This was with Bayou 200gr SWC bullets at 1.265.
I liked it pretty well in 9mm.

Your results might be different.

Good Luck!

Just curious as Hodgdon starts out at 6.5 for 1.225 COL. Hard time keeping your PF?
I'm not sure it will beat Longshot for my 9mm, we will see. But that's the fun in hand loading isn't it?! LOL

It felt like hard recoil at 6.5 grns and only made 167 with a 5" Kimber 1911.

I had no desire to go much higher as the felt recoil was more thanI wanted for competition. I tried CFE during the great Powder Famine! I used the remainder of three pounds loading 9mm with no problems.

ANd to your point about loading SWC I need to try some different load length of 200 gr Xtreme SWC. First attempt was failure. To feed to be exact. I've had success with several hollow point, fp and of course ball.
My 1911 is a RIA FS.
