help a new owner decide
« on: April 28, 2018, 11:55:35 PM »
Hi I bought a Tactical Sport Orange and love it so much I want another cz to carry (and use at the range a little with friends when the TSO feels unfair). I'm going to ask dumb questions that people will disagree about  but please don't hold back your opinions, i really can't afford $$ to be wrong.

I want a 75b, 75b single action, or sp-01.  I'm only going to pick the sp-01 if you guys tell me it is much more accurate.  I definitely like the 75b models more. And I want to turn it into a shadow 2 quality gun.  The reason I don't just buy a shadow 2 is because of the size and weight. I already have a TSO, I want this to be a more standard fullsize. Thats actually the reason i like the 75b more than the sp-01 too, it weighs the same as the sig p226 i'm used to.

Would you recommend I purchase a custom gun from CZ or buy a regular gun off the shelf and send it to cajun?  The price seems to be the same (a $500 gun skips up to $1000 either way) and I am not concerned about how long the wait will be at all.  It really just comes down to which will be a better gun in the end.

The 75b single action videos i have seen show the break is not sudden or clean. it looks nasty.  but I can't find videos of a single action that was from the custom shop or has been Cajun-ized.  Since single action triggers are usually better i wonder if that customization will make it better than the cajunized or custom DA/SA triggers.  but that seems like a big risk to take unless some of you own such a gun.  I think I'll be buying a 75b DA/SA unless someone speaks up and says the SP-01 is a much more accurate gun or the 75b SA trigger breaks as clean as the tactical sport orange trigger after being cajunized (or ordered from the cx custom shop).

Thanks to anyone that read all the way to the end.  I'm sure there is a way I could have said this more concisely if I knew more but I am new to guns and very new to CZ.

I have a 75 BD that I fully Cajunized myself. It is my favorite shooting pistol.
It is a little too heavy for me as a carry. If you want a CZ for an EDC, I suggest a RAMMI, PCR or a P-01.

Is the TSO SAO?  If so, you might want your second gun to be SAO as well so both work the same for you.  And, most folks feel a SAO pistol will have a cleaner/nicer trigger.

You can buy the CZ75 in a SAO model (CZ75 SA) or buy a standard CZ75B and have it converted to SAO.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Between the choices you've mentioned, accuracy will be comparable. The main difference is the beavertail on the standard 75B isn't upswept like the SA and SP01. Ergonomically speaking, I would go with the SA(you said don't want an SP01). I would install a Cajun Race hammer, adjustable sear or wide OEM sear, reduced power trigger return spring, floating trigger pin, and SAO trigger with pre-travel screw(5SAO or 6SAO). Eliminate the firing pin block and this will get you a 2 to 2.5lb trigger pull with the shortest possible overall travel, very similar to your TSO. You can achieve very nearly the same SA pull with a DA/SA but you'll have to throw more parts at it. I'd also add the Cajun 10X bushing. All of this can be done by a competent DIY'er. If you want to have it done by CGW or CZC, you can buy the gun directly from them and save some time and shipping expense.

Oh my goodness you are amazing.  I never get answers like this at the sig forum, most of them just say my priorities are stupid and need to change, and even the nice ones don't know as much as you.  I'm not a very agreeable person but im 95% in love with what you have suggested.  I really don't want to remove my firing pin block because I've dropped my Ruger LCR a few times.  Would keeping the firing pin block ruin it?  is there a way to compensate for keeping it?

Thanks for the compliment. You can leave the firing pin block, you'll just have to live with the pre-travel. I wouldn't say it'll ruin it, just won't be quite as nice. FWIW, your TSO doesn't have one either.

Without the FPB, my SAO CZ's have a total trigger travel of 2mm at most. It's been a while since I've checked, but with the FPB you're probably looking at 5mm. Even on reset, you'll have a little pre-travel for the FPB to move out of the way. If you leave the FPB, you may not benefit from a pre-travel screw, I've never tried it.

You can get a very nice/light/crisp trigger pull with the firing pin block still installed/operational.

I have a CZ75 Compact with a 3 lb. trigger pull that is so crisp you have to put a trigger pull gauge on it to believe it's really 3 lbs.  I have a CZ75 Compact with the rail (the P01 looking pistol) with I converted to SAO.  The trigger pull is just under 3 lbs.
