RDS for Scorpion micro suggestions
« on: March 06, 2020, 04:46:00 PM »
Okay so before you tell me do a search for this topic. I have done that and found the threads to be older or all over the place on topics. Iam looking for this thread to stay on the topic of what Red dot sight (RDS) or optic would you suggest for the CZ Scorpion micro and why.

I just purchased one, waiting for it to arrive. I plan on keeping the CZ iron sights on the firearm. The weapon system will be set up and used for mostly home defense. I am very familiar with Vortex optics which all of my carbine systems have.

Thanks in advance for your advice and information. So without further ado let's hear what you got. Cheers

What’s your budget and what are your plans for the gun?  Home defense?  Range fun?  Comps?  What kind of abuse do you plan on putting it through?

I have a Sig Romeo 5 on my micro and love it, I'm currently trying to sell my Aimpoint ACO and replace it with another Romeo 5 on a different gun if that says anything about how much I like it.

Man the Romeo 5 must be one hell of a sight! I see that come up a lot. I've never seen one in person. But by pics to me it just seems like a small optic to get a quick dot on target. If that makes sense?

Last spring I was getting several guns ready for a Pistol Caliber Carbine / Subgun class. After doing a bit of research and needing at least 2 RDS for the guns I was going to take, I finally settled on Holosun HS503GU. Uses readily available CR2032 batteries, like 50,000 hr life on low setting, Auto off with shake awake to extend battery life and biggest advantage for PCC, a choice of reticles. Standard 2 MOA red dot or my favorite 2 MOA dot surrounded by a 65 MOA red circle. The combo reticle was perfect for it's use. The 65 MOA circle was great for CQB distances and house clearing and the 2 MOA dot provided the needed accurate aiming point for 100yd+ shots or hostage taker elimination shots to the sweet spot. There was plenty of brightness adjustment to keep the sight easily visible in the brightest sunshine that I encountered. Temperatures were not extreme, mid to high 80's but the second day it poured rain in the morning and the temp/humidity climbed through the afternoon. No evidence of fogging whatever. The HS503GU handled the recoil of my full auto HK MP5 through roughly 1200rds in 2 days with out any loss of zero and the gun/sight combo got banged around a bit. Also the low mount worked perfectly to co-witness with my MP5 sights and with the factory fixed sights of my backup CZ Scorpion Braced Pistol. Liked the performance so well, that I bought a third HS503GU for my new CZ Scorpion Micro.
Now the bad news, apparently Holosun has discontinued the HS503GU, although there are a few still available on Amazon and I may pick up another before I run through the PCC/Subgun course again this summer. I need one for my 9mm Colt AR Carbine.

That's a great write up Sir. Thank you for that. I have seen this optic listed quite a few times as well. Seems like the Hol and Rom are neck in neck as the two to look at.

The Romeo 5 or the Holosun 503 will suit you well then, especially with the multi reticle options.

What would make one pick the one over the other?

The Romeo 5 is really hard to beat for the price. Mine has been excellent so far.

So how reliable is the motion detection on either one?

I've read there has been some issue with them. True?

I have the Holosun 503 and every time Ive picked it up, the reticle has been on so, 100% for my sample of 1.

It is a great optic. Reticle choice is a nice feature as well.

What would make one pick the one over the other?

Style. They are both made in the same factory in a China.

Unfortunately that's the downside of both...

Hows customer service with either one of these companies? Incase I ever had an issue with either one
