New P-01
« on: May 01, 2021, 09:37:25 AM »
First, I am the worst forumer in this forum.  I am sorry.  I log on when I want something and then again, a day or a year later.  I apologize.  I am going to log on once a week or more.  I know.  You are thinking, 'who cares'?
Well if I am going to be part of this community (I joined in 2013 I think), I want to be a decent member.
In 2001ish, I bought my FIRST handgun.  That decision took over six months and thirty something rentals at the range.  I rented a handgun every week.  I had a spreadsheet and then I would rent some of the same ones again.  The employees at that range would hide when I entered the store.  I would ask if I could clean the rented guns after I shot them so I could disassemble and reassemble.  I asked way too many questions and I was a general PAIN.  You see, I am a geek.
One day the employees scattered as I entered.  The owner saw me coming and he held out his hand and said, "Just take this into the range and try it".  He handed me a box and I went into the range.  I put on my glasses and ear muffs and I opened the box.  I picked up the sidearm and the range got bright and angelic music sounded around my head.  That was the first time I touched a P-01.  I put two boxes through it.  I brought it back into the store.  I threw away my spreadsheet and I paid the man.  Fast forward twenty years.
I decided that the 20 year old P-01, with at least 10,000 rounds through it, needed to retire.  So I logged onto this forum and I posted a WTB.  Then I called my friend at CZ USA and he sent me a new P-01.  I had to wait at the FFL for over and hour and 30 minutes, on a weeknight, for the state to pick up the phone and approve my, and seven other customer's, transfer.  The next day I brought the old P-01 and the new P-01 to the range.  To my unexpected surprise, the old P-01 shot better than the new one.  The old one is worn in of course.
I need to buy new sights for the new P-01.  Now I am thinking, I should have also bought the PCR... ::)

Since you enjoy disassembling and reassembling, just order you a CGW pro-kit and really learn how your gun works and it's potential. You'll soon enjoy your new one far more than the old.

Six week backorder for the CGW pro-kit?  But it does look like fun.  Okay!  You talked me into it.

All I can say it, I resemble this way too much, LOL.

I too am the proud owner of two P01s of quite different ages. Others have come and gone...

Enjoy!

Cheers.

first cz was ten yrs ago when i retired. it was a cz p-01. i done all the CGW tweeks myself and although it was a challenge i am now for the better from the experience. last year i bought my second cz. this one is a sp-01 safety with all the CGW tweeks i put on my first one. this time i found great Youtube videos for every part of the modifications, from disassembly to the CGW pro package install, ring hammer, 85 c trigger install, reach reduction kit, light springs, and extended firing pin. i did all the work at my desk following and stopping videos as i proceeded. a great way to learn about these great pistols. a couple things i was glad i had was a dremel tool for polishing and a lyman trigger pull scale to record the before and after results.

I don't mean to brag, but my OLD P-01 was producing some serious groups at 30 feet.  Now, after buying that PRO kit (I am also soupin' up my Scorpion), I am BROKE.  I think my fiber optic sights on the old P-01 (Hi Viz seems to come to mind) cost me less than $50.  They still produce impressive groups.  The sights now are like $100.  What's up with that?  I talked my husband into selling a couple of his revolvers (1915 Colt Army Special in .38 and a S&W 629 in .44 magnum, NRA Edition, stainless with 6 1/2" barrel - just listed them today) to finance my needed accessories.

What is everyone running for sights on their P-01?  Is there and less expensive options?

oh... I am still using the original plastic guide rod from 20 years ago.  Do you all think I need to buy a metal one?

No need to change. Read the torture test CZ had to go through in order to earn the NATO designation

I purchased the metal only to change the balance of the pistol a little more forward.  No difference in reliability.

I put the metal guide rod in all mine because I simply like metal period. As far as changing the balance of the gun I have never noticed ANY difference in balance. I think that becomes more myth than fact and any perceived difference is mental not physical.

I have run both the original plastic guide rod and a metal one and did not notice any real difference.  I'm currently running the original plastic guide rod with an 18 lb recoil spring.  It's a good combination for me.

There should be no wait time to order the pro package kit. It shows in stock. Now if you are wanting to send it to CGW and have them do the work, yes there is a wait time before you can even send it in, but well worth it.

I’ve been shopping for a P-01 but haven’t seen one less than 699, they were about 550 not too long ago

not anymore apparently. I have seen few pop up lately. I just bought a P-01 Omega at gunbuyer.com for $773 with tax and free shipping
