Hey all!
Shot the 3 Gun Nation matches out at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) this past weekend and made up for Saturday's sloppy showing (mostly mental baubles and poor ammo choice on a rifle spinner) with a top-10 finish on Sunday's 3GN inaugural pistol-only match. I was pretty happy with that result considering the number of professionals in the field!
I'm not sure if any 3GN folks read this forum, but the pistol match was a blast with some fun and challenging stages, including the VIR shoot house which definitely threw a wrench in everyone's best laid plans. 3GN, the ROs, and the sponsors (Fort Mill Munitions, Rev Arms, Timney and Pure Gold) ran an excellent match especially considering it was the first go-around at a single discipline event. (Moderators - I hope it's OK that I called out the sponsors here - if not please let me know and I'll edit this post).
I've done several 3 gun matches, but this was my first 3 Gun Nation event. If you haven't done one already, I highly recommend it, especially out at VIR.
My go-to 3G pistol is a CZ75B SA with the firing pin block removed, straight competition trigger (with action job by Automatic Accuracy), 15# hammer spring/CZ comp hammer which delivers an incredibly short and crisp 2-3/4# trigger. Zero malfunctions over two days and almost 300 rounds of Federal 124 grain, but I did manage to lose the front fiber optic with two stages left. It forced me to take a bit more time than I would have liked on those stages since they involved plates and paper past 40 yards and the shoot house which only allowed you to have 1 mag (of 10 rounds!) on your person.
I've got a CGW 10X bushing on order which I'm hoping will make an already accurate pistol group even tighter on those long-range shots. I'm also looking forward to David's mag well. I'll probably consider the B-SA "complete" once that's installed!
Thanks for reading! Love my CZs!
And here's some video - this was my second-best run of the day.
