Kadet report.
« on: January 12, 2002, 10:35:03 AM »
Hi all,
My job took me past the WMA yesterday.  BTW, anyone in Louisiana who is near Sherburne WMA should check out the facilities there, they're pretty nice, and free.  11,000 plus acres, camping, hunting, fishing, two skeet ranges, one pistol range, one rifle range.  As far as I know, to use the facilities, you only need to have either a fishing or hunting license.

So, I stopped and tried the new Kadet.  My Kadet came with two mags and is dated "00".  I used the Rem bulk ammo from Wal-Mart, about $9 for 550 rounds.   It worked great.  I shot about 300 rounds through it.  I had only one misfire.  The firing pin made a good impression, so I think the round was bad.  I only had one FTEject.  One out of 300 is fine with me.  Accuracy was good with decent groups.  I'm no expert marksman.  I did most shooting at 30 feet, some a 60 feet.  I had one target taped to a 2X2 about 3 feet high.  After 30 something rounds the 2X2 broke behind the bullseye.  My initial shots were consistent with the factory target, low and left.  I shot both right- and left- hand, both one- and two-hand, no bench rest, some DA most SA.  I'm right handed, but one of my best groups was from left-two-hand grip.  Go figure.  I can still shoot better with my Ruger Mark II 10" barrel.  But, I've had the Ruger for a long time and have sent many rounds through it.  AND, the Ruger won't shoot 9mm.
I'm very satisfied with the Kadet.  Anyone thinking of getting one, do it.

Hi,
No, I didn't do any fitting.  It fits snugly where it goes into the slide rails up front.  My 85 only has about 150 rounds of
9mm through it.  I think the "may require fitting" is only a disclaimer.  I would guess 1 in 100 may need a little metal removed to facilitate perfect fit.
            Cheers,
            Derf

The Kadet Should run about 1/4 inch@25 yrds according to the Handguns test, if i recall correctly..i know i was impressed with the article. Some .22 ammo might swell in the Kadet's close tolerance chamber.
CZs run tight bores and superb accuracy is the result.

I'm hoping to post the pic of my Kadet Kit on my CZ40B..looks cool. The one-shot 40B:)

I must be the 1 in 100, because my Kadet required a lot of fitting to mate to my 75B Mil's frame. It took me about 2 hrs with a file and some oil. Even then, it took about a hundred rounds to work the slide in smoothly but it was well worth it! I love my Kadet. Next to the '75 itself it was the best money I ever spent ona firearm.

Derf, I also had the same experiences as you with the bulk packed Walmart .22LR. I get a couple misfires per session. I tried taking them out, examining them for a good strike on the rim, rotating and reinserting, but they never fire. I even popped the bullet off one (yea I know that wasn't very smart) and it had powder. Somebody else here mentioned that they sometimes don't have primer in them.

Dave,
My Kadet fit fine also.  I agree, it's a disclaimer.
I gottta get mine out and shoot it.  I got my Mk.2 out and should take the conversion kits to the range too.
            The Kadet is may favorite.
