I have to agree with Bougalou... it feels more balanced than my buddie's PCR with the extra weight in the front. shoots nice too.

well, I figure more mags the better, so I hit up MidwayUSA and snagged 3 of the Mec Gar 14 round flush fits that they had on sale for $19.79... couldn't complain too much

I installed one from CGW on a Tristar in the past, it already had the hole drilled so that was nice. It did require very minimal fitting, just ran the bottom across a course stone a few times, no filing was needed.
Some require you to drill the hole in the sight once it's installed (#47 drill), which I can see going badly if you aren't very careful.

yeah, that's what I was wondering. I see CZ custom has some dawson fibers, I'll ask if the hole is there or needs to be drilled

Yes the groove is there on the Dawson sights making them easier to install.  On the sights that you must drill, drill slowly and use plenty of oil in the hole and on the drill bit.  As pointed out by other posts, only drill from the left to the right, this way the bits cutting edge is pulling the new sight into its mounting slot.  To make things go better I bought a couple Cobalt drill bits for $1.19 each.  Cobalt bits are great but still use oil in the process.

I saw this thread last Saturday and by the next day had read the entire thing.  Ordered one on Monday and picked it up today.  I'm impressed and my initial reaction is that it feels more balanced and allows me a better grip then my PCR.

Thanks Scarlett for your work on getting the word out on this pistol!
Ha! I love these posts about people reading the whole thread (novel). It's impressive how many people have joined in to share their experiences and help enrich what we know about this pistol. Glad I could help spread the word and glad to hear you like yours!

this one is for those who have replaced the front sight (most likely Scarlett's domanin), is the front site a .100 width, or .125?

I put .100 wide plain black Dawson front sight on mine.

Here's what I've put on one for someone else and what will be on my SAO SP-01 Compact.
https://cajungunworks.com/product/050-390-correct-oem-fo-front-sight/

The product description for this front sight explains,
"The 050-390 is much narrower (.095?) versus the stock front OEM sight (.125?) which allows for a dramatic increase in light on both sides of the front post."

My calipers are in the room where my baby is sleeping, so I can't measure the SP-01 Compact front sight width. But, the OEM is .125" and rhart and I have installed .100" and .095" front sights. Does that help?

that it does. a .100 and .095 being installed means I'd probably have gone with the dawson .100, but I like that one from CGW too. looks nice

Was it with a loaded mag or both empty?  I have a couple Sig P228s and I'm guessing they likely balance similarly...  With fully to partially loaded mags they balance great.  As ammo weight in grip reduces the balance of the weapon changes...

With an empty mag.  I will check on loaded mag....

Okay since we're talking about sights for the SP-01C these are the ones I installed on mine. They are from CZC and I love them.

I just traded an LC9s in for a second one of these. I've had no problems carrying it with a good belt and holster.

In the CZC description, they will mention needing a #47 drill bit meaning the sight is not notched.  CGW's sights from Dawson are pre-grooved. CZC does have quite a range of sight heights but a little conversion is needed.  Both are quality sights.  If you do drill, drill from the left to the right as others have stressed.  Finally found (with help from my cat) everything I launched, put it in my SP01C and will take it to the range mid week.  For this mod I put in CGW's SRS2 with the 11.5# spring, left out the lifter and its spring, put in a old 85C trigger with RP-TRS, the Floating trigger spring and CGW's bushing.  Also I am modifying an 85C with similar parts and it should be ready by Friday.

No it wasn't pre drilled but you could see light through the retaining pin hole. I used a #47 drill bit that I got from CZC when I bought the sights. It was more of a half moon cut not a full cut. It was very easy to do and only took a few seconds with a variable speed drill. Just remember to go slow and drill from the left side to the right side so the sight doesn't work it's way out while you are drilling the hole. Both the front and the rear need a little fitting. I used three different pieces of of sand paper 400, 600 & 1500 grit on a flat surface and just took a little off at a time until the sight would go in about half way on it's own. Then I tapped the front in using a nylon punch. The rear I did using my sight pusher. It probably took about 45 minutes to complete. Hope this helps.

I replaced the standard sights with the TruGlo TFX Pros.  Pretty simple installation, and I love the new sight picture.

Great, thank you.  Before I saw these, the P01 (ideally the od green variety) was at the top of my hg want list.

What I have found is that the steel frame guns w/ loaded mags still balance great, especially when you consider where the weight is located (more down and accordingly when understanding angles of force, fulcrum, etc, give optimal control against muzzle flip, etc, during the first few critical shots and also helps to correct against some of the possible movement from a heavy DA trigger pull...).  Where steel frames become critical IMO is when you are looking at full slide length guns -- like for instance this frame w/ full length slide vs the same w/ an alloy slide...  Compacts see less benefit but one still very much experiences that benefit when in hand.
