CZ-75 Compact Clone with decocker?
« on: October 22, 2017, 02:59:47 AM »
I recently had to sell my CZ-75 Compact alloy with de-cocker and I need a less expensive replacement that is SA/DA and with de-cocker, any recommendations on a clone or even a poly sa/da with a de-cocker?

"less expensive" is kind of a vague term, what is your max budget......a used CZ P-07 would be a great option, maybe $350-ish (+/-)

Yes!  Function is the same as that of the Beretta 92/M9 Safety.

Also, sometimes you can find a Poly Framed EAA Witness FAB92, which are much less expensive, but also a bit scarce as EAA does not regularly import them.

I have the early Series 88 Tanfoglio TA90's that came with a Decocker/Safety.

Series 88 Tanfoglio 9mm TA90's, Full Size and Compact. These have been exceptionally accurate and reliable.

I can use either the conventional Cz-style Safety or a Decocker/Safety.  It matters not to me.  I generally carry a DA/SA Semi-Auto with the Hammer down on a live/loaded chamber and Safety OFF.
I will load and decock my carry or house Pistol on my back Patio, pointed into the lawn/backyard dirt.  Never a problem/bang!

Also, I have used my .45 Witness in many IPSC Matches, holding downrange when making ready, and manually decocked that Pistol without setting it off.
It has un-nerved a few less than knowledgeable Range Officers, but most have been okay with it as long as it does not go bang.

The Ruger American is not a clone  But still worth a look.

I nearly bought one of these when considering a striker. But found a Witness Compact 45acp manual safety for a good price. I still may get the Ruger

I had a Ruger American Pistol Compact 9mm (#8635). I liked the way it felt, but it was quite heavy for a polymer striker fired pistol compared to others available at the same size. Also I was hoping the pistol would take off as a platform due to its modularity, but very few aftermarket things have been developed for it, even holster selection is limited. Someone told me that it has similar fit to the M&P compact series but I never tried a holster for that. I have a feeling that they won't be developing or improving the American Pistol series in the future, but I could be wrong.

Back to the OP - evidently not.  Nothing compact (short grip and short barrel) is a decocker and a clone.  SOME Semi-compacts and old steel guns had decockers, but they are ALSO safeties - which in my humble opinion muddles things and makes slide manipulation harder.  YOU can use a good technique to decock a safety version if you use your off hand thumb to block (NOT PINCH - which is stupid), and roll the thumb away.  BUT, this is still not as safe or convenient as your old PCR.

The Armscor MAP and MAPP series Pistols use the traditional Cz75 Style Safeties.  No Decocker models there.

I have the Steel Framed MAP series Pistols, which have been reliable, after some Gunsmithing.

would you recommend the steel frame over the polymer? im in the market for the compact. where did you buys yours? how much and what was the "some gunsmithing" done on it. thanks in advance.
