I bought one from classicfirearms last week and received a rifle with a receiver marked paragon mfg inc.

The disconnector is not modified and the bolt carrier  has been rounded off on the disconnector side.

I experienced the gremlin today firing it for the 2nd time. Hopefully forcedmarch fabrication can fix it up for me.

That rounded carrier is interesting, and it must be rare.  Do you know the history behind that?  Seems like it would help perpetuate the gremlin, no?

The post above is opinion, and I am probably totally wrong, so please pardon me if I offend anyone in any way. I am speaking only for myself and just sharing my thoughts, not trying to start an argument with anyone, and if you disagree with anything I have said, I concede your correct.

Weird and possibly dangerous modification there...

Essentially, that part trips the disconnector bulge to release the sear up, grabbing the striker...  Without it working properly, the disconnector wouldn't be tripped allowing the carrier to continue forward...

There shouldn't be an out of battery risk here, but there's absolutely a runaway slam fire full auto risk here (with the wrong/right ammo) if the carrier isn't tripping the disconnector...

I don't know why they wouldn't modify the disconnector vs the carrier...

I just got a VZ2008 with a serial # VZ002XX. It seems to fall outside any of the above ranges. There was a slip in the box with a date of 11/06/2008 on it. Any idea what gen and also if there's anything on it I should watch out for (Issues, barrel size, etc.)???
Czech it out!

It is most likely a 1st gen, but my number is lower than what's listed in the above posts for a 1st gen.

Also, can anyone tell me who made the receiver on my 2008? It only has a small area milled out below the safety unlike most 2008's and 58's.
Czech it out!

I picked up one of the CAI VZ2008s that Cabelas briefly put up for sale a few weeks ago. Mine is VZ08PM-0137xx, which seems to be a fair bit higher than the 3rd Gen highest posted here.

Thanks for sharing!  If you don't mind me asking, what were they charging?  $600 was what they last had them at I think but didn't see the sale you're referencing.

This is all just hearsay, but years ago I was told that the czech republic surplused 500k rifles for $10 each with a bayonet, mag pouch with 4 mags and sling each.  Century was rumored to have purchased 1/4 of them and thats where all the parts kits in country came from.
Many of the rifles were sold to militarys, Iraq certainly acquired quite a few.

$599, at the end of August. I think they were in stock for only a few hours.

At $599, you did good!

Were they the ones w/ the FAB Defense handguard and VFG (w/ Czech folding stocks), or were they beaver barf handguards?

Although mid range so of little value, you can add 1st gen.  VZ002xxx

No idea about the US quantity.

Canada has received a huge number, without a doubt, if their popularity and market price are any indications.
They are very fortunate that although their idiotic RC Mounted Police prohibit AKs, the Vz 858 is unrestricted, allowing owners to take them onto private land etc (no?), not just to a gun club.
