Rebuilt my CZ82 from the last spring up. Did a trigger job and stripped her down naked and blued it. Made some custom grips and voila.
Close to the best shooter i have (besides maybe my Sig).
Very nice!!Thanks Canis!
Can you elaborate on making the grips? How?

I took a stock black plastic set and sanded down the checkering a bit. Not super smooth or anything, just to get the patterned look off.
Then I took a wood burning tool with a sharp stippling point and just stippled the grips all over to get a rough surface. Had to be careful though, it takes a fairly light touch or you will burn through and make holes.
Once that was done i lightly sanded again just to knock the sharp peaks off.
Then I cleaned them well and used Rustoleum "Plastic Bonding" spray paint in a Desert Tan color. I sprayed several coats (4 or 5) letting it dry for several mins between. Then added a few coats of semi-gloss polyurethane in the same manner.
Then i let the grips set up for about a week.
The spray paint works well as long as you take the time to let it set up properly. If you rush the grips back on the gun it will chip or scratch the paint easily.
This is a regular carry gun of mine and the grips have held up very well so far.
That's about it. It's fun and pretty easy and you can have some truly custom grips you can be proud you did yourself.
Cheers,
Wayniac
Hey Mike that looks great, welcome to the forum. Did you do all that stippling by hand? How does it feel?
I'll try this. Let me know if you guys can see them.
Thanks.

Here's mine, stripped and reblued the frame while keeping the slide in white. Cost me nothing other than 1/2 day's work.
Looks great Adrian, cute duck. ;DThats my rubber ducky I got in a old Axe body wash kit O0
Which grip sleeve is that? Looks like it fits well; how's it feel?
I had originally stripped mine with Jasco and a wire wheel then cold-blued it a year or so ago. It looked better, but the Marschal grips looked like lipstick on a pig. So, I went with a 2-tone Cerakote finish and some Beretta mag bases. It's now the prettiest gun I own.

Okay, here's the 82 I just bought for $280. It included three mags and a few boxes of ammo (including XTP and Glaser Safety Slugs). The finish was done by Corsica Coatings and is a Moly Resin Norrell finish. This pistol looks brand new inside and out.I had that problem, too, until a patient forum member walked me through the process.
HEY!! How do you attach a file to these posts? ? There are no controls visible for uploading a file.
I like it,
what color, exactly, is vz200?
it looks like not quite black, not quite green or grey
Refinished with Cerakote Graphite Black and CZ75 3 dot sights. Has replacement factory grips on her now. I am happy with how it turned out.Really like the color with those black factory grips..

I just stumbled upon this forum as I am looking to refinish my CZ as well. LOVE the looks of your pistol BigK. What is that cerakote color on the frame?
Thanks!
-tfrey
Thanks for the kind words, tfrey.
Please forgive the poor lighting in the previous pics, it's actually supoosed to be Stainless Steel colored Cerakoting. In flourescent light it has odd greenish hue sometimes. Here's a pic of it taken with a better camera:

BigK, those are beautiful grips. I'm not convinced I like the finger grooves but that's just my taste and beside the point. The wood grain is beautiful and something I'm considering adding to mine once my refinishing project is out of the way.
My question is, compared to the original factory plastic grips, how do the new ones affect the fit and feel of the gun? For that matter, do you find that the finger grooves offer any particular handling advantage other than appearance? If you carry the gun concealed, do the new grips add any bulk or present any particular disadvantage for concealed purposes?
Just got mine back from Mahovsky's today. It's the hard chrome Metalife finish. He does a great job and his price is excellent, considering he does the whole dis-assembly and re-assembly. Now I have a nice set. I can pick either dark or light, depending upon my mood.

Thanks guys. The wood grips are from http://www.grips4u.net/ They were only $55, which I thought was a pretty good price.I have the same grips on mine, and love them. I ordered the metal inserts that CZ USA sells for their wood grips and put them in. I also used a really small rubber o-ring to keep the screws from coming loose.
Dan,
Did you refinish the extractor, or is that how it came?

I've been too afraid to tear any of mine down. I've heard it can be very hard to put back together.
... some mistakes made which don't require you to back up a step or two. They require you to go back down to ground zero. LOL. Believe me. I did that yesterday. Some things have to go in FIRST.Correct - and I'll admit it; the last time I put a CZ-82 back together, I forgot to drop the hammer strut in before setting the hammer in place. I had gone all the way through to installing the sear spring and getting it in place under the auto safety before realizing that the hammer strut was still on the workbench in front of me!
I wanted the extractor as well as the visible part of the receiver polished. The picture is not showing the polished state of the extractor well but I think it looks good in the contrasting color..

Looks good! Was it originally "natural" or was it black before you polished? (I'm trying to track design changes by model year...like I don't have a better use for my time :o)

Dwight,I like to think of it as an unplanned training session! ;D Just think how lucky we were to have gotten an opportunity to practice CZ-82 reassembly!
I'm not proud of it but I think I have you beat on that one. LOL Not only did I have the hammer, the sear, the auto-safety (yeah, with that pesky spring trick finally mastered) but I had installed the trigger, and trigger bar (another story of frustration) and I had actually put on the manual safety. I thought I was home free and then I tried to put in the hammer strut. Uh huh.
No, ya can't leave the trigger and trigger bar in place in order to pull the hammer out. You've got to take it ALL out. :o

I Duracoated these pistols myself.
Here's a "tool" I made to handle the task of holding onto and positioning that pesky sear spring. Used the Dremel to put a notch in the end of the blade of a small jewelers screwdriver. Worked like a charm. :)

the grips from vintage look just like the ones from Grips4u.net but more $$$
Otter, I have another question. The SHE number on your 82. What is it? The reason I asked (just curious) the mag. release button pattern is different from most others I've seen. Mine is 88 and just wondering if yours is a later or earlier model. Again, just curious. :)

You made me chuckle a little bit with that. I remember thinking the same thing, especially with the sear parts. I thought I was way in over my head. I didn't wanna be that guy to bring a gunsmith a bag full of parts. In retrospect, I'm sure you're as glad as I am that I overcame that part.
Mine's Cerakoted now, but I rust blued mine first time. I can't tell if it's glare from the flash or what. Did you have any trouble getting all the parts to "take" the bluing equally? I had a heckuva time getting my slide as dark as the frame. I wasn't sure if it was the cheap bluing gel I used or if it was something about the metal.
Man... this thread has made me so jealous and now I want to refinish my CZ82...
I don't like any of you people on this thread! Now I have to buy one or two of the 82s & refinish them! That means more money I don't have, sleeping on the couch again, and eating noodles for all three meals! >:(Indeed, a small price to pay in exchange for owning one (or more) of the finest pistols ever made... ;)
Lol, beaitiful pistols on here....thanks for sharring guys/gals. :)
Good point, what all does it really take to get one of these back into great condition?
I got mine from classic firearms for $220.00. Transfer fee to my local shop $20.00 I replaced the recoil spring and the firing pin spring, just because it was way to simple/ Not sure if it needed it or not $10.00. Grips were $65.00. I bought 3 extra mags for about $70.00 bucks. The gun came with one. I had Brian at EFR refinish it. He added CZ 75 rubber bases to the mags and a CZ 75 PCR sights. He charged me about $300.00 that included shipping back to me. Total I have into it is about $685.00 with some misc. shipping charges from the other guys I got the grips, springs and mags from. As far as replacing any major parts inside. Nothing!! Shoots like a dream. Brian breaks it down all the way to refinish it so I'm sure he sanded any rough spots he found.
Know I'm thinking about getting another one!! :o He has 3 he re did on his site that look killer and are around $495

Need to send one of mine off to get metalifed also. How did you pay him? Did you just include a check to him when you sent him the gun??
What service did you use to send the gun to him? Did you use the post office? Does he send it back to your house or does he require a local gun shop to send it back. Brian at EFR requires it to be sent to and from your local gun shop
I removed the grip panels, magazine and recoil spring and sent the rest to him (with the slide unattached to the frame) via UPS as machine parts.
I don't think C&R guns work the same way. They don't go through and FFL, when going from one C&R person and another.
warpspasm is correct
Q: Are curio or relic firearms exempt from the provisions of the GCA?
No. Curios or relics are still firearms subject to the provisions of the GCA; however, curio or relic firearms may be transferred in interstate commerce to licensed collectors or other licensees.

Sights are hi viz fiber optic and the grips came from marshal grips.
Hey, I've got a dumb question, but I figured I'd ask all of you who've done this already.
When mine was Durakoted, I forgot to mask off the feed ramp and the guy sprayed it black along with the rest of it. Before I realized how easy Durakote came off, I was worried about the ramp being 'koted.
Now I've changed directions and plan to take it and get it Cerakoted, and am wondering how you guys dealt with the feed ramp. Did you mask it off, and if so, with what?
Or did you just coat it?
I'm thinking it should NOT be coated, but thought I'd ask for some advice.
Jab
Just received mine back from Nickel Boron coating from WMD guns ? .
BigK, thanks for that . I was wondering about that. So you haven't had ANY feed problems due to that? That's good to know. I'd rather not mess with the masking and what not. The guy doing the work didn't think it was going to be a big problem either.
BTW, I saw your pistol and I think I may go with that combo.
Do you have any regrets using that color combo, like it being hard to keep clean on the lighter color? It looks REALLY nice!
It's a toss up between Graphite Black/Stainless and Graphite Black/Flat desert Earth.
I'm going to wait till I get to the shop and look at the color charts in person. I saw another pistol on the net with Graphite/FDE and it looked nice. Decisions, decisions....

This is one I refinished a couple of years ago (Before & After). It is Gunkote from an airbrush baked as directed after aluminum oxide media blast. Matte black and brushed stainless.

I wouldn't mind doing another 82 in titanium/black with the grooved grips.

Hi to All.
Got my She86 back from Mahovsky first week of September. Cost me $200 total including shipping. Have seen lots of pictures in this thread and other places, but was still not sure what to expect. Turns out that it is actually better than I expected. It looks great, but it does not have a blingy look. Does not look like something you should make into a safe queen. The absence of any detectable build up like you see with some other finishes makes this into a great looking, working pistol. Just my opinion.
Mr. Mac
P.S. That price included two mags.
Just got my hands on my CZ 82 today, just have some grips for it now. I am going to finish it either in the Cerakote Satin Aluminum or the Metalife finish by Mahovsky's. What do you guys think?

This gun was refinished in my kitchen with Mark Lee Express Blue #1. I stripped it with Jasco Premium, polished the slide with 400 grit wet paper, degreased the hell out of it with denatured alcohol, and blued it over a period of a couple of days.
There is still some touch up work to do, but the gun is essentially finished. I was hoping for a little better result, but I just don't think there is any improving on what I have done. If I had it to do over again, I would not have polished the slide, as the polished surfaces started to show unevenness once I was 5 treatments in. I suspect it has to do with the metallurgy of the gun, as I polished it again to remove the bluing and tried to do an even more meticulous job to no avail.
Here is a link with another method of bluing I used it and my guns are on the first page of this thread and in the link I used Oxpho Blue after using ohers and it worked much better for me and using a heat gun to heat everything up prior to bluing helped alot.

Same here on the P64 CZAK which I had him do. Excellent work, and looks almost like a satin stainless steel. He's currently working on a Zastava M57 for me, and I plan to follow that up with the second vz.82 which I purchased.
